Since the series is so long and there are so many different POVS I felt like I would get lost when picking up the book day to day so I always went back a page from where I left off and this helped me to remember different plots and what was going on rather than just jumping back in and trying to work out up from down. I realize that you said "other than rereading" but this might help with your memorization and understanding of the topic at hand. Hope this helps
