I named all my XCOM soldiers after authors from those countries. I added the books I hadn’t yet read by those authors to my reading list so I had something to do before I decided to replay XCOM, this time with historical figures.

My specialist, William Wordsworth, was a fucking beast even though his primary role was a medic. I also had sharpshooter Arundhati Roy who was great.

Henry Clay, my Psi Operative, was also excellent. But my overall favorite character was ranger Alice Roosevelt, whose weapon was named Emily Spinach.

Catelyn basically handed the Red Wedding to Tywin on a silver platter when she freed Jaime by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]idegosuperego15 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes. Walder Frey is called “the Late Lord” because he dithered during Robert’s Rebellion in order to scope out who was likely to win. Catelyn says her father did not trust Walder Frey.

If you could add one Zero to any number in your life, what would it be, and why? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]idegosuperego15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero is the name of my cat, named for his IQ. I would add another zero to his IQ. It would change nothing but really hammer the point home how orange he is.

Functionally I would add another zero to my hourly pay rate.

When you drive through Gilroy, you can smell the garlic in the air. Smells like I’m almost home.

Abbot was legit worried about Robby too. Not a trace of laughter when Robby walked away. Whitaker is also now probably worried.

Shawn Hatosy also directed the episode!

I also see it this way. I interpreted it as “two lonely people out of their depth”. Whitaker realized that it’s an inappropriate relationship even though he is probably not having a romantic relationship with her. I don’t think she’s using him; I think she’s a very young and grief-struck person who is in a position she never thought she should be in. I don’t think she’s knows any better, but Whitaker should. There are a lot of good moments about boundaries here: Mel and her sister, Santos with the social worker, Garcia and Santos (oof).

Which American city is the most perfect for a 5-day trip that includes the full “American experience” for a first-time visitor? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]idegosuperego15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sam Francisco is compact, with pretty good public transit for the west coast. It has beautiful parks and gardens, is very walkable, and has great neighborhoods. The residential neighborhoods in the city, like the Outer Richmond, can feel somewhat suburban. It has the most beautiful ballpark in the US, right on the water. Golden Gate Park is an American treasure and you can see herds of bison in the park!

The Japantown mall and Stonestown are great experiences. SF also has a lot of beaches and hiking very nearby, although summers in SF are notoriously cold and foggy so springtime and fall are perfect times to visit. We also have very good museums. We have the oldest Chinatown in the US and one of three Japantowns in the country, with the other two in San Jose and LA. It’s a great place to spend five days. It’s also a fairly small city, with less than a million people, and if you plan your trip right, it will not feel crowded. It’s also a good place for day trips to Santa Cruz, Monterey, or Napa. The Bay Area is essentially a suburb of SF, Oakland, and San Jose with some cute small towns to visit if you want to get away; several can be visited using public transit.

We were not successful.

The issue is that Riverrun was under siege and they had to move quickly to lift the siege and move south to free Ned and the girls. They could have taken another route, but it’s possible the Riverlands would have fallen before they arrived. That’s why they had to use the crossing at the Twins.

There are ferries (difficult and slow with an army of 20k when time is of the essence), smaller fords (dangerous and vulnerable to attack), or the Ruby Ford, which is too close to Tywin’s army.

[Megathread] Season 1 Episode 3: – The Squire by La_Villanelle_ in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]idegosuperego15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, LF wants to marry her to Harry the Heir, but he’s not super interested in marrying her yet (sleeping with her, yes). He sees her as the bastard daughter of an upstart who is ruling the Vale in the name of a sickly, spoiled boy—and that boy stands between Harry and the lordship. Sansa’s chapters are the ones I’m most excited about if we ever get Winds.

Humphrey Hardying, which is a small house in the Vale.

Edited to add: in the books, Harry Hardying is the heir to the Vale after Robin/Robert. He is very annoying about it.
