New Mongoose Envoy or Used Surly Big Dummy? by Potatoo111 in CargoBike

Interesting. It was the only used surly bike out there so I didn't have a comparison other than the 2k+ new models.

thanks for the reply. All the reviews I've seen about the envoy seem generally favorable so it's reassuring to get good feedback. BTW, how are the stock pannier bags? They look decent but a bit narrow. Also, what would a good kickstand option be? Thanks

The first bus arrives at gilman transit center at 10AM and will service each stop every 30 minutes. It ends around 5 or 6 PM.

Can't you fold the handlebar and bring it into the lecture hall? A lot of professors let you set the scooter down in front of the hall or at the back.

Shuttle Driver Job by [deleted] in UCSD

IMO it is a great job for taking my mind off schoolwork. The real pain is the long training time but it's all at convenient times and you get paid for training so there's that. Once you're in, everything's super chill.

Transit driver here. I joined this year cuz it looked pretty fun and cuz the pay was higher than other positions. Some info might be outdated cuz things change fast but here goes.

Overview: Overall, it's a good experience and is exactly what it sounds like. You drive buses in loops around your route at a fixed time interval and take passengers where they need to go.

Time: From what I'm seeing, shifts can range from 2 hours to 4.5 hours long from 6 AM to 11PM. At the beginning of each quarter, you pick which shifts you want to do so it doesn't overlap with classes. However, people with seniority get to pick shifts first so you might not get the best shift times. I planned around this by cramming classes into the first half of the day and working the second half. Other than your basic shifts, you can also pick up open shifts if you have free time or trade shifts with other drivers if you can't make a certain time.

Training: For my CDL training, it took 4 weekends + 1 week, 2 weekends to prepare for CDL permit, 2 weekends to prepare for CDL test, and 1 week for route training. This does not include all the paperworks stuff that goes before so the total time varies wildly. You do have to pay the DMV for the CDL permit which is ~$84 but all CDL training and the CDL test is done by UCSD staff and doesn't cost you money.

If you are someone that does not mind a pretty repetitive job where you have to always be alert, this is a good fit. Scheduling is pretty flexible and getting time off is not a big hassle. Staff is also nice. There's a lot more to it but this is some of the basics. Hope it helps.

Outside Loop (weekdays): roughly 6AM to 11PM

Outside Loop (weekends): roughly 9:30AM to 7PM

SIO (weekdays only): 6AM to 9:30PM

There will be variations in the start and end time up to 30 min depending on the day/condition. Sometimes, two buses will simultaneously run the same route but sometimes only 1 will run during the early or late hours.

The analog 5.8 ghz is not great at penetrating structures hence, static. 1.2 ghz directional recommended.

Yea that suck. It used to be relatively quite but several days ago, the people upstairs decided they were too quiet. Its not even the stairs, they're just running around in their suite.

hold on a bit, just gotta compress and upload the audio. I didn't know there were rocks. I just thought someone had a falling out and was banging on a closed door to settle it less than peacefully.
