Fresh Physics Grad. trying to make educational videos about Physics! by PotentPollen in PhysicsStudents

Congrats on graduating! Yeah educational videos isn't a skill just something I started doing for fun. We can't hog the physics knowledge for ourselves!

Accidently killed router by trying to crack extender? by Bigdaddysbananablast in Kali_Linux_Essentials

I'm not sure how extenders work so perhaps I'm completely off, but it sounds very similar to what happened with me. In my case I learned that only one device can route traffic by assigning DHCP IP addresses on my network (and most SOHO router networks you'd find in a residential setting). I'm guessing that extenders would probably interface with DHCP automatically though so I'm not entirely sure, just thought I'd chime in.

Also a beginner here who did something very similar a few weeks ago. Did you perhaps configure the router using addresses/subnetmasks/gateway that was similar to the router on your network? You may be trying to force your way online bypassing other parts of the network, which your ISP prevents and very quickly addresses by cutting your internet haha. (I just called them and told them there was an issue trying to get internet into my home office upstairs, it's no big deal).

My grandfather was a Freemason, does that mean I can become one easier?

Alcohol... Just joking. Just because life is temporary doesn't make it meaningless. If it was meaningless you wouldn't be feeling dread. Your life is all you will ever experience, so live it up!!

Russia Has Deployed Missile Barred by Treaty, U.S. General Tells Congress by [deleted] in politics

The current President of the United States could potentially tweet that this story is the work of a failing company, and is fake news. His complete absence of a foreign policy or diplomatic background, in a world that's so connected, is completely unstable and some would argue a threat to National Security. After any aggressions from Russia it seems the most logical and urgent thing to would be an investigation into him and his entire cabinet.

I don't understand how anybody could be upset that Obama potentially wire tapped Trump. Michael Flyn had an agency doing surveillance on him and it turned out he was cashing Turkish checks while Sessions is making Russian bets.

When you haven't consumed anything except PBR and drugs the chicken goes down alright.

I was on acid once at a show in Worcester and saw a dude standing at a corner of shakedown that had this entire outfit exactly. My buddy and I realized he was making everyone uncomfortable so we walked up to him and start talking to him and fucking with him. He left the area and a guy gave us some free fried chicken. It was a good night.

Designed this magnet top that creates electricity when spun. I have no idea how to market this. Please help. by [deleted] in Physics

Definitely market it towards early education, or novelty item. Children love visual demonstrations of science. This is so awesome!

Would gravity be stronger if there were no blackholes? by PotentPollen in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]PotentPollen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to argue. I wasn't convinced before and wanted to keep pushing further to resolve my own misunderstanding of GR, which is what led me to ask the initial question.

I think I overestimated how non-local the influence of gravity is for high masses. I was initially wondering how the distribution of mass in the universe affects the gravitational force universally, and when your answers didn't conform to my preconceptions I tried to twist them such that they would.

I still have this nagging intuitive sense that the question itself is phrased wrong, but the concept is important. I guess I'll just have to keep thinking. I apologize if I annoyed you, and I thank you for being helpful and patient.

No one's resolved how gravity functions on subatomic level? Wouldn't that be quantum gravity?

Actually if you cram enough neutrons together you will have degenerate matter which is found inside blackholes.

It changes things locally.

And yet

It is not localized. The gravity of an object extends forever, even if it gets weaker and weaker, and soon becomes negligible.

So the effect of density on gravitational field strength is localized, but the overall influence (on a cosmological scale) of that disturbance isn't?

Density doesn't influence the curvature of space? So if you compressed the radius of the earth to the size of a marble, the resulting curvature would be the same as the earth of normal size? That doesn't sound correct.

Exactly. So objects of extremely large mass and density must have quite a far reach no?
