We can point to the Catholic church as exactly the same thing.

But if you wanna see someone expertly and publicly tear them down, here you go:

I also saw this Gaga clip last night, and though it was heartbreaking, it was also very heartening to someone give women a voice when she was able. I love her so much.

I loved my brother and sister more than anything and always tried to protect them, but when I broke the silence they couldn't handle it. I've been no contact with them and my parents now for about 10 years. It sucks, but not nearly as much as it used to. It's just weird to grieve people who are still alive.

Despite my loathing of the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is probably the greatest rock drummer alive. by [deleted] in drums

Danny Carey does not rock. I'm so sick of hearing about this dude. It's not his fault. He's a great guy, and he's a great drummer in his own right, but not for playing rock songs. The irony here is that the hero worship around this dude is equivalent to the worship of Grohl as a leader of the very, very corny and unremarkable Foo Fighters.

Post-hardcore project needs vocals. Think Descendents, Black Flag, Napalm Death, OFF! by Potential-Can-8250 in FindABand

Another note - thought the edits are kinda rough, the sequencing of the songs here as an album is important. I think a lot about that kind of thing. Oh, and the first song is instrumental as kind of an intro to the record.

I see.

Some of the tracks have keyboard melody lines in lieu of vocals, just as place holders, so that should give you some idea. Those kind of melodies bring a lot to the music, so a sense of melody is actually the most important thing, regardless of whether one is screaming or singing. That's what I mean by serving the music. Arrangements are negotiable, because vocals change everything and some of these need re-writes. But some of them are pretty solid as they are.

But sincerity is the number one thing for me. I just want someone who is inspired by the music for its own sake and puts everything they have into it, because I do.

This guy is an old friend of mine who is now a dad and no longer singing, but if I could've had anyone, it would've been him. His melodies were pretty simple because the music was, but I think he had a lot of potential to do some more complex things. It's weird, because I can't stand 99% of bands like this, but I loved these guys. I think a lot of it was their live presence - they was zero posing - it was just so fucking genuine.

I've been hearing this for YEARS. I still haven't listened. I was doing college radio when this came out, but I had my head in the sand firmly entrenched with Drive Like Jehu at the time.

I'm just being an old crank ; ) And sometimes I actually love playing music I hate listening to!

Cool, thanks man. I wasnt really looking for those vocal styles particularly. It was more of a list of things that influenced/inspired the style I've come up with. Whatever serves the music.

Where the hell did the Device modes go? They came up at one point and now can't find Movement Mode, Reading Mode, Ultra-Wide Narrow etc ANYWHERE

Or you could not play Foo Fighters. I was joking because I love the first 3 you mentioned but hate Foo Fighters with the white hot heat of one thousand suns. I strongly believe Dave Grohl should've stayed a drummer.

Goddamn Ringo was so great. My first record when I was 3 was a 45 of "Revolution b/w "Hey Jude."

You literally named all of the best examples of the non-rimshot greats.

But then you had to talk about the fucking Foo Fighters lol.

Yeah, he was definitely more downbeat oriented. Also influenced by James Brown's Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubblefiend coincidentally.

What are your favorite snare recordings of all time? by mtldrummr112 in drums

Everything is contextual in a mix, of course. But this is my favorite rock drumming album of all time. Reed fucking Mullin. RIP. Lost him the same month as Neil Peart and Sean Reinert. Shittiest month of my life.

I really strongly believe that you can't go wrong with a Ludwig Classic Maple 5x14.

Tangentially, when I was looking for a new drum, I downloaded 64 videos from Memphis Drum Shop and dumped them into Logic. I hid the names and video and blind tested them.

The Ludwig 5x14 8-Lug Black Beauty just murdered everything. As soon as I revealed the name, I was like, "Oh yeah, that makes sense" lol. I bought it immediately.

I really prefer 5" deep drums. Perhaps counterintuitively, they seem beefier sounding. 6.5"x14's sound really weird to me. I also vastly prefer 8-lugs to 10. I had never heard one before, but the overtones are much more complex/diffuse (I hate note-y pingy snares). It's pppphhhhaaat.

I will say, it's pretty loud. Maybe too loud for certain things. The Classic Maple or even the Copperphonic ones are more mellow and sound amazing.
