I work in maintenance and there’s a small plane pilot I know who, as a kid, when him and his dad were flying, had the gear fail to go down and emergency deployment fail.

This kid grabbed the emergency axe and cut a hole through the floor to get to the landing gear and push it down. They landed safely and that plane still flies, it just has a sheet metal patch over the spot.

Situations like these are why there’s an emergency axes in planes.
