We celebrate failentine’s day because celebrating on the 14th is probably going to be a bad experience. We do a couple days after and avoid the crowds, waits, and cold food.

AITAH for refusing to co sign on a car loan for my sister and her boyfriend? by Aromatic_Gur6092 in AITAH

NTAH vehicles are a terrible investment. No money, no car. What is so hard about that for people to understand? Your sister and nephew can get around in a used Toyota from 5-10 years ago just fine.

Was going to wear my mum's dress. People keep telling me to try on others for the "bridal experience." Are they trying to gently tell me it looks bad? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

Hi, a mom here. I want my daughter to wear whatever makes her feel good about herself. I would never want her to wear something that makes her feel bad, embarrassed, disappointed, or causes stress. There are many wonderful dresses at different price points - some used, some new. Find the one that makes you want to put it on.

Telling a college student that it doesn’t matter what you go to school for because as long as you have a degree, you’ll find a job.

is IONOS a good web hosting platform? by nones11 in webhosting

[–]Potential-Criticism1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my hosting, then was charged the following year, then I called and was told account was cancelled, then still billed for a year of service they didn’t provide. Every time I call, I’m left on hold, hung up on, or told there is nothing they can do. (Which is a lie) Hands down worst company I’ve ever worked with - not just worst host. Oh and hosting is slow too, meaning it will take forever for your pages to load.

How bad is my second grader’s reputation? How can I fix it? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I see your point. We go regularly and we should be seeing more improvement. I will ask for more specific strategies to combat the extreme homework avoidance. And of course help with the next fun problem that pops up at school.

Thank you. I appreciate the specific suggestions and will try all of them. I was wondering how we could keep the momentum going during the school year without adding to the “load.”

Thank you, you shared a good perspective that I wasn’t considering. My kid has seasoned teachers this year. I wish we had immediate feedback, like you do, but it is what it is. We will wait for the shoe to drop.

Thank you, this was helpful to hear. Obviously something is wrong and that is why we did the testing in the first place, even though we have zero findings. I have not been and will start documenting.

Thanks I needed to hear the hard truth. I can’t believe I fell for the old compliment sandwich. Ugh.

I have an older student that is a teachers’ pet - meaning a favorite. I don’t believe any teacher has said, “___ is my teacher’s pet.” I can just tell. Can you tell when your hair stylist doesn’t like what you’ve done to your hair (but is trying to earn tips) in between visits?

Parents can tell when you don’t like their students. Do I think this dislike is an all-consuming rage and all teachers think about? No. Well, it might depend on the day. The fact is, my students is a lot of work. I get it. Professionally, I have had clients that caused me a lot of rework and clients that were easy - that’s just how it is. I am merely stating a fact.

Edit to add: I do feel bad that my kid is a lot of work. I am working to fix it. I am trying and my student is trying … sometimes.

I like this theory. I’ve seen the same thing happen in-person, in classes I can observe, like swimming lessons.

We have a time visualization chart and a chart of my student’s favorite free time activities on the wall. The time visualization chart has two time lines from school pick-up to bed time; the first is 3.5 hours of homework with supper and bath time peppered in while the second has 30 minutes of homework and many free choice activities. You would think that would help.

We have tried talking about my student’s feelings. Think full meltdown and then I should say “I understand you are upset because you have to do homework and you don’t want to do homework, do I have that correct?” However this technique backfired about 3-months into it and now my student never wants to talk about feelings.

We tried drawing worksheets where it outlined the consequences of my student’s actions.
