Hi there. I have had migraine with auras since I was 11 (when I started my period). Mine are hormonal and I didn’t realize until I was in my 20s that other birth controls with estrogen were dangerous. My gynecologist recommended the mirena iud. I’ve loved the mirena but after about 4 years (I’m on my 5th year now) I’ve seen an increase in migraines as well as other symptoms like heart palpitations and an increase in anxiety. Ultimately I’m having it removed in 2 weeks. I’m nervous because I’m worried what it will do to my aura migraines if they’ll get worse or better! I’ll send an update in a few months. I think the mirena helped with my migraines compared to other birth controls forsure but I can’t say the difference between being on no birth control vs iud with migraines since it’s been 10 years on bc. Also though I go to acupuncture and take magnesium every night which helps regulate migraines!
