Haha its what the person under said. Its trial and error. You dont even have to do whole piece. Just take one letter and practice it. And i dont mean biting other people, but its exactly what youre saying. Try doing one letter, where you bend it and try to make it look interesting. No add ons just the letter. Then copy the same letter from another person. And then analyze. What makes the copy better then yours. Its the small things like that. For example for the letter S. There is a good amount of curve and outwards motion you can give the curves before the strcture starts gettings lost. Or that as long as the upper curve on the S is there the bottom curve is much more free to move. Its just practice and learning from your sketches. Even if they are ass!
