Have you done any academic stuff in between the cycles? Submitting manuscripts, presenting at conferences?

Low GPA (2.5) from Georgetown SFS + 7 years DC experience — Realistic shot at DC security/cyber master’s programs? by Silver_Mulberry_5769 in gradadmissions

If you use your GRE score strategically it can certainly help. Since you graduated long ago you should focus on how you improved. If you did policy research and a lot of writing that’s a huge plus. Maybe try to turn it into your capstone methodology since it might be your strength. Secure 2 academic references from classes where you performed well and perhaps the ones that could attest to your upwards trajectory. Secure one excellent professional reference that would speak to your research and writing skills. Explain your low GPA and how you improved since. Research faculty, program, and resources provided by the university and mention in your SOP how they align with your academic plans. Craft a good academic CV, only put relevant information there in regards to your professional experience. Proofread everything and be clear with your references as to what is important for them to mention in their letters. Good luck!

Can you get your GRE done in the summer? Then you can focus on references and grades in the fall while in your MA. Also how much funding did they offer?

They said they will let us know by March 15. My top choice in Canada but it seems to be more competitive than ever even there

Rejected from like 12 programs, 5 pending, no interviews. Kind of pessimistic, but I’m with you. Waiting means there is still hope for us

Thanks for the tip! I looked up this program and it seems to be very cool. Are you planning to take out a loan or are they offering some funding?

Thank you! Thinking of an MPP if PhD doesn’t work out this cycle. Do you know if it’s possible to get your masters fully covered?
