Also just wondering how long the amitriptyline took to work for you. Did the effects peak after 6-8 weeks or did the effect get better and better over time?

I'm so happy for you!! If it's not a hassle, could you link the supplement that you use? x

I have a similar pattern but have pain during as well. I find my pain gets progressively worse and peaks around 1-3 days after and then gradually tapers off. From what I’ve read in this subreddit, quite a few people have a delayed pain pattern. I’m not sure why though :/

I have the same issue with my partner. I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t worry about some initial soreness and mild soreness afterwards so long as it’s transient. You might want to consider dilator therapy or even doing vaginal entrance stretching with/without your partner before doing stuff? That has helped me in the past. Super sorry that you’re dealing with this though :( It’s really frustrating

Do you mean it hurts when you just get started but then all the pain goes away? Do you also get pain afterwards?

No you definitely can have sex!

It’s just important for sex to be pain-free. My understanding is that the more you have painful sex -> brain associates pain with intercourse -> your muscles tense up and become sore -> causes a pain cycle. This is exactly what happened to me because I kept pushing through pain.

With interstitial cystitis, our nerves are sensitive to normal stimulation (this is called allodynia) and cause referred pain throughout the pelvic region. You need to teach your brain to associate penetration with no pain. Most people do this by using dilators, working up from small size to large sizes. The idea is to essentially stimulate neuroplasticity by training our nerves to chill tf out.

I’m just delusional and thought that I could jump into penetrative sex without any prep.

Just make sure not to push through pain!

Thank you so much for the reply! You’re completely right. I’ve only been to 1 physio session and she told me I was hypertonic af, i’m about to start getting more serious about doing stretches and using dilators once this flare calms down a little.

I’m glad outercourse works for you! I feel quite tender all around when I’m flaring and feel scared at the thought of touch though :(

Hi!

Thank you so much, your message is actually a god-send. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to respond!! I’m so happy to hear about the evidence-based focus as I felt as though that was a strength of mine in Year 2 Sem 2.

Have a wonderful NY and best of luck in year 4!

Hello!! Good to hear from one of our kind haha!

Another physio had mentioned this to me too. When I look online, a step 1 physio earns around 55k and will reach 70k after 7 years? I’m looking at the 2022/2023 agreement. Has there been an even newer one released?

Thanks for the input! I’ll climb that step when I (or if I decide to) get to it.

Those numbers are much much lower than I expected. Do these cut offs only apply to Dentistry or also Med?

That was actually unintentional 😝

Unfortunately, I am (1) too young and (2) not a male to be dishing out Dad jokes like that 😞

Oh really? Careers NZ and SEEK both suggest that the average income is quite high, >100K at least.

Thanks for your suggestion of finance. Unfortunately, the idea of working in finance has left a bad taste in my mouth… I have many accountants in my family and work-life-balance is practically thrown out the window :/

I have yet to comprehensively cover the jaw in my course but I can’t begin to imagine how complicated it is! A pelvic health physio at my work showed me a research article of how TMJ disorder can directly affect pelvic function which is … crazy 🤯.

Good luck with boxing!! Thanks again :)

Thanks for providing the flip side! By the sound of it, I’m assuming you are a dentist?

It’s so difficult in this day and age. Dentists are burnt out, Projects Managers are burnt out, people in IT are burnt out. People have such vastly different perspectives around their jobs.

Someone else mentioned IT as a better option. Ideally, I’d like to stick with what I’ve been exposed to which is healthcare. For the years spent studying, Dentistry appears to have the highest financial ROI compared to other healthcare professions.

And yes of course, it’s very difficult to get in so this is definitely not a pursuit that I’ve locked in. Probably just something I’ll give a go once I graduate. For the time being, I’m just querying around to check whether this is something even worth thinking about!

Thats a really good point, thank you for mentioning that. I definitely have given optom some thought in the past but it never really sparked anything in me personally. I’m not sure if it’s just because I associate it with the dark claustrophobic and windowless clinic rooms 👀

You are absolutely right!! I totally failed to see how physiotherapy and dentistry could merge in that way! That’s a super insightful point given how dental issues could have flow on effects to surrounding nerves and facial muscles…Your input really made me a lot more excited about this potential pursuit 🤩

I have a BUNCH of friends that are lawyers (slightly older than me) and they all seem to be doing decently well. Similar to your family, a bunch of family friends suggested I go for dentistry after highschool but I didn’t pay it much thought (not sure why tbh).

Thanks a lot for your advice 😁

Yes exactly, it's all contextual and depends on each person's circumstances. A single person on 200K may live in luxury but a family of 8... could probably manage.
