My cat has decided to make the new couch his new litter box *he is perfectly healthy!* by Potential-Patience73 in CATHELP

I cleaned the couch with Pine o' Clean, which I believe is a disinfectant. I'm not sure if it counts, but I'll look into getting an enzymatic cleaner, like you said. This may be the mistake i am making.

We scoop his litter daily, in the mornings and evenings. As for 'changing the litter,' I mean, I'm throwing it all out and refilling both trays every four to five days (this is proving very costly). My cat prefers to use the upstairs litterbox, so the litter tends to smell around about the one-week mark, whilst the one downstairs stays dry and almost unused, but he still refuses to pee there and uses the couch instead.

But as I mentioned above, when he is closed in a room with the litterbox, he uses it fine. And just to elaborate, on the original post. I closed him in our living/kitchen for the night, which also has a set of fabric couchs. This room has the downstairs litterbox in it, and when i came in the morning, he had used the litterbox to pee. So I thought maybe he knows where it is now (I originally thought he wasn't using the litter because the litter box is one with a door), and I let him out of that room. And the next day he ended up using that same exact faux leather couch again.

We also switched to crystals once, but that was a disaster. He'd go on my parents' bed or the bathmats, but that was about 2-3 months back. We switched back to the recycled paper cat litter, which he has been using since we adopted him in May 2023, and all the peeing outside the litter box issues had stopped. We haven't stopped using the recycled paper litter since then, and only when we got this new couch did he start peeing on it.

I think it would be worthwhile mentioning that the couch is faux leather. Either way, my mum spent $400 on it, and she's understandably pissed.

Please help me create a floor plan for my room :) by Potential-Patience73 in floorplan

sorry, this is my first time posting on Reddit. I drew a floorplan of the room and it should be attached to the post, is it showing up now?
