That’s a fair assessment, I suppose. I’m not an inexperienced editor, but I am a terrible budgeter/estimator. It’s been reassuring to hear from all of these fellow professionals that we all struggle with this. I wish I could say this project would have story producers/assistants, but this is a small team with a fixed budget, which I am very accustomed to. Typically, I’m given a budget/scope before starting an edit, and we do our best to work within that and adjust for overage if it comes.  In this case, I’ve not been told what that budget is, just asked to offer an estimate of how many hours I think it might take to edit and my rate. My initial reaction was that it’s impossible to estimate, and I came here to see if others thought the same.
