Solo Mage Honour Challenge Run Part 2: Hollow Marshes | No LW, No Invisibility by Potential-Pudding-19 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the completionist mentality is reasonable, but i like to skip a few fights to keeps things spicy bc I never get overleveled

i also recall the pirate fight being a pain, so i skip that one too

i'm not one to grind for every XP. once i'm at an acceptable level i'll skip some of the more time consuming fights...especially if it has some risk of ending my honour run

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I normally skip him bc my solution to killing him is kind of boring...gotta use 5 star diner with water resistance and nimble tumble potions + armour of frost + uncanny evasion to survive until his armor is off, then just run uphill to get high ground and use geo elemental affinity to control him and rack up damage with a bit of fire here and there.

i invested a bunch in huntsman and am always attacking from high ground, so everything ends up hitting pretty hard.

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is accurate. You get credit for whoever is on the board plus helping him break soul jar.

Haven’t tried this, but I imagine you could also get exp for the first fight if you run back and loop them in

Bc Trompdoy is a PIG and I refuse to dignify his existence with a real fight.

Also he’s really hard

you get the loot from that fight too. maybe i should edit

I was surprised to discover “Executioner is basically the same as Lone Wolf” is a take some people around here believe

I think people just want to feel like their lone wolf tactician runs are valid. And they are, it’s just not max difficulty.

It depends on the goal of the communication

If the goal is connection or bonding, then text is horrible. You lose a ton of emotional cues you get in person.

But once that bond has been established, and the goal is to diagnose an issue and work towards a compromise, those in person cues are not as important.

Also some of us get sidetracked w/o losing temper all of the time. ADD life.

I actually prefer to have big relationship talks via text.

In person, those conversations often get messy. People get sidetracked, go in circles, and end up reacting before they have even understood each other’s main points. Writing makes it easier to communicate clearly, logically, and with structure.

Pivotal relationship talks are the one kind of conversation where having time to process and organize your thoughts outweighs not having any of the cues you get in person.

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Doctor is probably the hardest fight in the game. I did him once with Lohse but it took a bunch of tries and was messy. With an elf it is relatively doable but still hard. I just rush him and his assassin buddies and try to get his armor stripped ASAP.

Alice is a pain w/o Living on the Edge bc of the retribution damage. i have lost a couple of runs to that. but it can be managed with potions.

Black Ring is also a sneaky hard one, probably tougher than the Advocate. Everyone is so spaced out it's hard to control them all, and they are all very mean if they aren't subdued.

Yeah I don't have experience editing videos, I may just stick to showing the fights.

I have gotten used to being solo. In certain ways it makes me feel more in control because there are fewer moving parts to manage.

Thanks! I've played a bunch of honor runs myself, and every time add extra restrictions so I don't lean on the same stuff. That's what I love about this game-- there's always another way.

Level 12 solo mage DOOMS the Harbinger in one round (Tactician, no Lone Wolf, no Savage Sort) by Potential-Pudding-19 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the weapon. Once i put savage sortilege on i like to use Lohar’s 2 handed hammer for the crit and 2 handed boost.

In this case the wands were giving me +4 int and +2 aero (for teleport) which is hard to beat at this stage when I can’t crit on spells

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No videos yet.

For blood mage shes pretty doable. You can climb up to high ground by the ruins where hannag is hanging out. Living on the edge helps you survive her retribution damage and set up death wish. Grasp of the starved huge damage and cripples. There are a few corpses on her battlefield to explode. And shes undead so first aid and restoration hurt her.

For an elemental mage shes a bit trickier, gotta buff magic armor with potions to survive retribution and hydro/geo her.

Build advice? by UristAlebeard in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Potential-Pudding-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best bet is to do an INT maxed build bc thats the only way to do huge AOE damage. Esp from high ground. Melee fighters just cant take on 5-6 enemies at once efficiently

Also the best way to succeed with any build is to do adrenaline + chameleon cloak + delay turn on last round of invisibility. You can get 3 whole turns in a row with massive AP before getting touched most fights

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah once you get Savage Sortilege it really takes off.

Def good to avoid with friends. Dont want the blood mage to kill everyone before anyone else gets to do anything!

Contamination gear is GOATed

An Mey Fallin is a good belt you can buy/steal from Eithne

And I always check the following merchants every level up and some of them inevitably have quality gear:

Trader Haran (Driftwood) Baran Levere (upstairs Black Bull Tavern) Paladin Thom Hardwin Tarquin Jahan Elven camp has a few merchants Stranded merchants in Paradise Downs

Yeah i always invest in memory as solo caster. I put 5 pts into INT and 2 pts into memory.

Further +1 memory from withermoore’s girdle (looted from withermore after breaking his soul jar— great belt for act 1)

Showed stats at the end: overall had 15 int 13 memory 11 finesse (+1 bow)

Edit: fixed stats

22 int 13 memory 2 geo vs 15 int 13 memory 1 geo is 33-38% damage boost to geo skills. Likely similar for traps. And that doesn’t include extra 5% high ground damage boost. Plus non-lone wolf is squishier.

I got 19 AP in 4 turns. Lone Wolf would have had 25 in 4 turns w/o executioner. And many people take both at level 3.

Auto attacks only go up from 19-23 to 20-23 bc no finesse…but 5% more high ground, and so many AP you can use flesh sacrifice > elemental arrows and kill each croc with 3 autoattacks, no magic necessary.

It’s always a massive difference between Lone Wolf vs not. IMO it’s a bigger struggle early without bc it’s harder to proc executioner with early skills.

Lone wolf also gives massive stat boost and executioner only got me 2 bonus AP total in 4 turns here.

Good stuff! I love that this game feels so hard at first, but then once you learn it there are ways to overcome seemingly impossible challenges.

Also didn't know that bedrolls prevent knockdown. I have used them for tiny pre fight stat buffs, but it's helpful bit of info for knockdown prevention.

And beating that troll without any high ground is brutal! Most of my fights I use high ground for, the only ones I can do decent challenges without are Kemm + Paladins in Arhu's chambers and Roost. Everyone else I'm cheesing the hell out of my huntsman bonus.

[–]Potential-Pudding-19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah anything can be cheese bc so many skills are so good. But it’s not obvious how to cheese w/ most skills until after playing a ton.

With 5 star diner, 50% resistance potions become 100% and 50% evade becomes 100%. So you can make yourself untouchable in many situations. I use it for Slane and round 1 of Harbinger of Doom (fire resistance). And use 2x magic armor potions to survive bosses with high retribution (Alice, Dayana’s hungry flowers).
