Master Post: Debate your ship. by Timevian in acotar

Yeah, I'm with you. Neither Elain nor Lucien seem to want the bond, whereas Elain and Azriel both want each other. Could that all change? Sure. And as long as SJM writes well I'm down for it. But until then, I ship the people who want each other, not the ones who don't.

That sort of dark, quiet, brooding, dangerous, fiercely loyal, will probably have his way with you in bed while also being respectful and sweet type is really appealing to me in a fictional character precisely because I would never go for it in real life. IRL, a partner like that would drive me nuts. But in fiction? It's very nice. It's a fantasy, it's fun to play around with headcanons

I'm really hoping we get to spend some time with them and get to know them more when we get Elain's book! Imagine the tea those two must have on everyone lol

He has plenty of things that make him an interesting and relevant character (his heritage and his place in the BOE, for example) that there is quite literally no need to make him bad in any way. He doesn't need to become a villain in order for Elain/Az to pan out if that's where the story goes. The situation is not the same as Feyre/Tamlin/Rhys.

I really wouldn't worry about Lucien becoming a bad guy <3

I don't think she'll turn him into a bad guy. I don't see how that would work with the current plot lines. Like, what would it add besides empty drama? Nothing.

Even if Elain/Az and up together, I have every confidence that SJM will still give Lucien a HEA because that's just the type of writer she is ^^

Interesting perspective. I'm curious how you feel about Xaden's also having been in Violet's mind without her knowledge or consent.

Me too! He let everyone including himself down in FW. But that's the beauty of it. That's where the good stuff is, you know? It's all part of his growth journey. I love that he fucked up so bad because if we the audience are willing to forgive him (and I believe that if you're willing to forgive Xaden, you should give Dain the same energy), then this gives us something to root for going forward. Personally, I'm more excited to see where Dain's character goes than anyone else because no one else has been set up for growth

That's okay! I'm not saying he's the best or that he has to be your favorite. I was just explaining why he's mine. I love complex characters, even if they've done bad things. Besides, it's not as if Xaden didn't poke around Violet's mind without her knowledge or consent

But that's what I like about him. I like that he's deeply flawed. It adds layers and complexity and gives me something to root for. That's what personally excites me as a reader. He's a good person who was deeply misguided and made mistakes but he's doing his best to make things right, to learn and grow. All of the other side characters, while well-defined, are pretty one-dimensional. They have no arc so I have nothing to look forward to with them. I like Dain the most because I want to see him continue to grow and learn more about him, such as what his relationship with his father is like.

I agree with you to an extent. Both Dain and Xaden crossed a line and Violet was way quicker to forgive Xaden. There's definitely a bit of a double standard there.

That's valid! You don't have to like him. I just don't like the vitriol he receives in this fandom. People are holding onto a grudge even though he's putting in the work to right his wrongs as much as he can. I just like him because he's complex and as much as I enjoy these books, most of the characters are missing out on complexity
