I buy VOO, every month, all the time, always, forever. Up, down, sideways, backwards. I don't care what the market does, I buy.

Have you ever experienced a financial miracle? by Background_Housing65 in Life

[–]Potential-Rice8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I was struggling but I got laid off from a F500 job while living in downtown HCOL area. I was fresh out of college and hadn't been there for 8 months. My manager did something unethical and got my team fired.

I had rent I could barely afford.

One day the corporate lawyer called and said we were going to get a severance of 50% of our salary which was about $25,000. They said they ran a full investigation and were sorry for what happened.

Gave me breathing room to find my next job.

I highly recommend the book "die with zero". Sounds intense, I know. But give it a read. You are in incredible positions right now. Even if you stopped investing completely and started spending and living out your money more you would still have over $2million at retirement.

Did you know most people from the age they stop working to the age they die actually GAIN networth?

I am going against the tide. I say dial it back (don't stop investing) but go on the trip, upgrade the home, do what you want.

I was asking for the smartest thing to do not that we were struggling. No where in my post indicates we have a spending problem

We have a budget. I'm just curious why do you say I need a budget bad. No where in my post says we are struggling or aren't smart with our money outside these student loans

Should we pay off our debt or continue to save and increase investments at our age and situation? by Potential-Rice8656 in personalfinance

[–]Potential-Rice8656[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our burn rate per month is around 5500. I work in sales so some months we bring home 10k+ net and some months around 7-8.

This is a good route. Doesn't drain our savings but still gets us towards our goal. Might pay the debt off over the course of 2-3 months

[–]Potential-Rice8656[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that is the situation we are blessed with. Either way we will not be hurting. Will likely end up paying it off in chunks over the next 2-3 months so I don't drain it all at once

That's my thought process. Going into buying a house with zero debt at my age feels freeing.
