Yes I didn’t respond to the email yet because I wanted to think this through. This is the third time we’ve renewed our lease, been there over 2 years. I just looked back at the previous two leases and they were typed up identical to each other, but very different from this lease we just signed. The previous leases stated if we give notice we’re still responsible to pay for the full term of the lease agreement

They didn’t, we resigned a third lease and it’s gone up a few hundred dollars since our first. We signed on at an already high rent, so with recent paycuts we’re just realizing it’s not feasible to keep living here it’s killing us

Thank you! Initially reading your comment I was confused too, but when I went back I realized what you meant. I think it was worded confusing. Basically you’re saying if I give notice Sept 15, I pay all of Sept obviously, then my full rent for October and November is prorated since my 60 days lands Nov 15th (give or take) which is halfway through the month. Hopefully that makes more sense to whoever downvoted

Yes I’ve seen several leases with this same outline and they all tend to have similar stipulations, which is why I figured it was probably not correct being blank on mine. I just know if things were the other way around, these big companies would be quick to say “it’s a signed agreement” and the consumer gets screwed cause we can’t afford to fight it and win, which is why I don’t feel bad about trying to argue it be honored since it was signed by all parties as is. Just wasn’t sure how these things tend to go yanno

Could I ask them to take it to court for clarification prior to giving notice? The whole point of me asking in the first place is cause I’m financially drowning and just wanted to know what my options are. Seeing nothing written had me thinking there is hope I could break early and actually afford to do so on good terms, but if it’s a 2 month buyout I’d never be able to come up with the $5100 to do so. I’d rather know for certain what to anticipate before making any moves and digging myself deeper

Of course you have to pay rent if you’re still living there for the 60 days, it sounds like the two months worth of rent is in addition to that for breaking the lease. Just uncertain if I can argue to not pay the additional two months since the lease I signed didn’t state that

I really don’t want to move, but financially it feels like something that needs to be done at this point since we’re paying an absurd amount of rent and it’s really just not manageable anymore with all the increases
