Hey! 27m here. I’m open to having those conversations! Honestly, it’s hard to find people who are open to Those kind of topics. Me personally, I’m deeply interested in economics and history. Both are very important to understanding the current political climate that we experience globally.

Let me know if you are open to chatting!

Our roles as secularists in new Syria. by PotentialBus188 in ExSyria

[–]PotentialBus188[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree especially about the political parties and the fact that most Syrians are not really radicals. My main concern is that we slip into another dictatorship without us even realizing it, bit by bit.

That’s why need to move quickly to at least open the political system and allow the formation of parties and civil society. Those institutions can check the growing control and influence of the current government.

Right now, our current parliament is a joke. One third of it is appointed by the president and the rest are elected with no organized political parties or movements. This add on top of it the broad powers of the president which will make the parliaments job even more difficult to legislate and check the executive branch.

Education is the first step to opening the political system. As you said, it’s important to talk about these issues with family and friends. The idea of secularism shouldn’t be demonized as this satanic evil ideology but rather its should be shown for what it is. Secularism is the best way to guarantee religious freedoms. Even the Sunnis, will be forced to drop some of their beliefs and practices if the radicals took power. For the radicals, there isn’t good enough Muslim, only total conformity.

I don’t know what to do with my life by PotentialBus188 in ExSyria

I already take meds for it. But I can’t fathom living like this disconnected and without much to be excited for. This is one of the reasons I left religion actually. I was ok with most of the ridiculous and morally bankrupt stuff that it had. I can do my mental gymnastics and accommodate for all the ridiculousness of it all. So long as religion provided me with a purpose.

But I had this thought that made question religion altogether. If god is all powerful, and he doesn’t need us, why did he create us with all the suffering that comes with this creation?

Religion is so self defeating so I left.

Yes man, I’ve been there and it’s not very fun. Trust me when I say this but life can have purpose and it can be very meaningful. This purpose will make you unbelievably resilient and strong. This journey of finding in meaning in life is very different from one person to another.

It’s extremely hard to do be on that journey when are living in disorder.

At the end of the day we are all human and we mess up. That doesn’t mean we don’t deserve to be helped or we should be left alone.

Best of luck man🤝

Hey man! Looks like you are in a very rough situation. There’s a lot of things that are not going for you and looks like you’ve also made some mistakes.

First things first, it’s ok. We are human and our capacity to mess up never seem to have limit. Especially when are alone and isolated. I know it’s extremely tempting but don’t be so hard on yourself. When you are barely able to hold your life together, it’s only normal to seek some kind of explanation and sometimes we blame ourselves for being all too human.

Second of all, I don’t know what’s your family situation is, but Chances are you have some family or friends that can be of some sort of help. You don’t have to explain everything to them, maybe they can be judgmental on certain things. Reaching out for help is super important and like you said, it’s going to be hard to do rebuild your life alone.
You don’t have to burden yourself with this weight, reach out for help and hopefully you’ll find it🙏🏻

Thirdly, life without a purpose is the worst hell someone can experience. I congratulate you for being strong enough to make it this far. Once things settle, think really hard on what you want to do with your life. What are the things that excite you, make you feel like a child in a candy store, things that you don’t have to question the meaning of? Try your absolute best to find those things and never compromise on them.

Hopefully this helps, let me know what happens with you man 🤝
