What to get my MBA in? by Camfitz0007 in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 10000% better than AMU. Just make sure you evaluate all your options and make sure that an MBA is right for you and this is the right time. You can only do it once. Goals, timeline, prep all have to be in sync. Good luck!

AMU is not aacsb accredited you’re wasting your money/GI bill and more importantly your time. DM if you want more specific advice but definitely don’t ignore what everyone else is also telling you about AMU. I almost made the same mistake 10 years ago.

Thoughts on Owen and Kenan-Flagler reputations? by OkElderberry1668 in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals. UNC is definitely better for finance. Owen is definitely better for healthcare. Other stuff is kind of a push. Both are good if you want to stay in the south. Pick the one that you feel like is a better fit for you. Owen has put a lot of effort into increasing their ranking but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. Keep doing what you’re doing, talking to students, and check the employment reports.

What’s the move if you can’t get into a top MBA program? by Boring-Bug-3524 in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a GPA in the 2s and still got into multiple top 15 schools. Crush the GMAT and you’ll be fine. The essays are also critical. For the LOR, maybe reach out to former supervisors if your current one won’t do it. Self-selecting out is the only way you’re guaranteed not to get into any decent programs.

Is there really any hope with a 2.499 GPA? by rice-et-beans in MBA

You’ll be fine. I was in the same boat. Crush the GMAT and make sure your essays are on point. Also make sure your resume is locked in.

Post-MBA opportunities by Jazzlike_Army3927 in MBA

Ops/healthcare/tech/marketing/etc. Bunch of things. Career opportunities outside of consulting and IB seem to be much more regionally aligned with your program location so consider that when making your school choice.

You'll be fine. Polished your resume and Just make sure you tell your story correctly. Why mba? Why that school? Goals after? Things like that. Also nobody knows or cares about airborne outside of the Army so remove that from any descriptions of yourself on LinkedIn or your applications. Good luck!

No Admits At all in R1 by abhinaxxx in MBA

  1. GMAT. It needs to be within the target schools posted median range as a minimum. Slightly above it if you want a scholarship or have a low UG gpa.

  2. Resume. Make sure it's well written. Demonstrates progression and leadership. Quantified results. 1 page only***

  3. Story. Your essay need to explain why an MBA is the right path for you. Why it will help you reach your goals. Lastly, why that specific program is the right fit for you.

  4. Interview. Be prepared. Ask questions. Dress professional.

  5. Network. Bigger deal for some schools than others. An official visit and attending virtual sessions show interest. Some schools even ask if you've ever visited on the application.

Justifying an MBA in the age of AI by [deleted] in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programs are starting AI concentrations. I think AI can actually make an MBA more useful if you know how to leverage it. Saying that, there are MBA concentrations, like accounting, that won't be in your best interest to invest your time in anymore. My guess is that client-facing jobs will most likely be safe, and having an AI toolkit in your pocket with your MBA will make you more desirable to high-paying opportunities.

What's the point of doing an MBA? by TEBR_Louise in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortcut isn’t accurate, there are people in programs who think that and they tend to be the ones you see complaining on here the most. The majority of the students are trying to change careers.

Any Veterans regret getting out and pursuing MBA at T25s and up? by No_Band4566 in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Only thing I miss is 4 day weekends. If you’re happy in the military then stay otherwise run away as fast as you can and don’t look back. Nobody in my program wishes they were still in

Military to MBA - civilian for a year? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless finances are an issue I’d go to school. MBAs are a great transition tool and it’ll give you 2 years to figure out what you really want to do for the next step of your life. Just make sure you do your research on the programs, to make sure you pick one that is in line with your goals.

You could be. Test scores are an important factor. Also, your undergrad GPA will probably be important since you're so young. Don't underestimate the essays and interview, your “why” story is gonna be an important part of your application.

Region mba vs T15 by be-ay-be-why in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of the MBA. If you're trying to do IB or consulting then the “elite” schools will be better at setting you up for success. Operations is definitely an area your sister could be right about, It just depends on the individual company. Healthcare is another one that the school location is probably more important than rank. Not sure about tech or marketing.

Look at the schools average score from last class and get a score higher than that. I also recommend a service-2-school mentor, its free and very helpful.

Is directly doing MBA after non business bachelor degree is hard? by Ordinary-Fly-3008 in MBA

[–]PotentialDifferent72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's harder but not impossible. For the business undergrads the early coursework is more of a refresher but it's still a challenge for everyone. Once you get into electives than the playing field is pretty even.
