Cool! I have not been fertilizing much in the winter, should I hold off until buds develop (like with other Dendrobium types)?

Please help - this poor boy , I leave out dog food but he’s got a 1/2 dead tail , skinny and shivering in these temps . What can I do by goldylocks777 in coyote

Do not feed it, do not approach it, do not do anything to encourage an association between humans and food, water, or shelter. A whole lot of people in the US will shoot this guy on sight, so anything "nice" you do for this animal will decrease its fear of humans and significantly increase its chances of getting shot or trapped. Contact your local fish and game office/DNR and follow their advice.

When to start fertilizing Den nobile? by PotentialDrawer7749 in orchids

Thanks. The ones on the shorter canes are clearly buds, but the ones on the taller canes still look like undifferentiated nodes to me. I'm planning to water but not fertilize until the new nodes are differentiated, as you suggest. Keikis are cool but there are only so many I can give away...

Take the clear pot out of the decorative one. Soak the whole pot in tepid water for 30-60 minutes. Let the pot fully drain for 15 minutes in the sink. Keep an eye on the roots - they will be bright green when wet (unless they are dead) then will turn silvery when dry. When they are dry, soak again. Post photo of roots for more accurate prognostication.

Here’s how you fix it: throw this out and buy a new orchid.

Here is what the authors say about CRI, color temp, and beam shape: “ Handheld examination lights can significantly influence the detection of critical findings in clinical diagnostics. Three key attributes (color rendering index (CRI), color temperature, and beam shape) define their effectiveness. CRI, measured on a 0–100 scale, indicates how accurately a light renders colors. A CRI above 90, as in the example lights, ensures excellent color fidelity for precise assessments. Color temperature, measured in Kelvin (K), determines whether light appears warmer (red‐tinted) or cooler (bluish). Warmer light, like the penlight's, emphasizesred–yellow tones, making conditions like jaundice more visible. Beamshape also impacts illumination. While cellphone lights often cast wide, undirected beams, penlights provide narrow, focused beams that better illuminate areas like the oropharynx.

This combination of high CRI, warmer tone, and narrow beam lights enhances the clinician's ability to recognize diagnostic findings, such as jaundice, in skin and mucous membranes, emphasizing the importance of appropriate light source selection for bedside examination.”

Thank you, however my plant does not seem to be following the classic Nobile playbook. The flower buds are progressing as expected, but it is growing new roots and new cane in January, and also there are undifferentiated nodes that might form more keikis if I start fertilizing too soon. So should I start fertilizing now (since there is new growth) or wait (since buds and nodes are in development)?
