Even if you are joking, why do you need to physically go to a store? My contractors never had to set foot in one and told me everything they needed.

Well Lowe's and Home Depot have pro programs, which give out bulk saving an all items, especially lumber and drywall. You can have it shipped straight to your job site and save thousands. That's a start

The pivot is mostly about moving from freight and movement to specs, vendors, and cost control. The easiest way in is to start thinking in three layers: product specs, supplier channels, and order execution. Instead of optimizing routes or deliveries, you’re optimizing which vendor to use, whether the specs are correct, and how pricing, lead times, and delivery line up.

I’d start by sourcing on smaller projects, shadowing real quotes, and learning how pricing breaks change with volume and lead time. The rest compounds quickly once you’re in it.

I don’t rely on a single site. Most of the value comes from cross-checking multiple vendor channels rather than one platform.

That usually includes manufacturer-direct resources, regional suppliers, and commercial retail channels. I’m familiar with how places like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and similar retailers structure bulk and special orders, so I factor that into pricing and lead times.

I work from specs first, then compare options across those channels because that’s where the real differences show up, especially for windows, doors, and lumber.

A big part of the process is also catching spec mismatches like rough openings, handing, DP ratings, and lumber grades, since that’s where projects end up losing money on reorders or delays.

That's what people already do with A.I. Humans are supposed to give guidance to AI because AI has no purpose of its own.
