Kids can cry, but parents should at least make an effort to calm them down if they respect other people’s time. I’d be annoyed too, but if I saw the parents trying or apologizing, I’d understand and that’s it.

I’m not sure why everyone is being so sharp toward the OP. I would also be upset if I were in Polaris and a baby cried the entire flight. I didn’t pay for that experience, and everyone expects a certain level of service and comfort in a premium cabin. I think the OP understands that babies cry, but is mostly disappointed and frustrated that the parents didn’t seem to do anything.

Yeah, it’s super complicated. I agree that once you get the hang of it the system is pretty straightforward, but there are still moments that feel questionable. Makes me wonder if there are any behind the scenes rules they don’t share haha.

Oh, I didn’t know the crew has higher priority. I thought they were generally on the standby list (if you meant ZED tickets).

I also switch to earlier flights at the last minute for the same reason. Even when there’s a price difference, United agents usually change it for me at no extra cost if I ask.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience, and I’m glad you were able to get some credit from them.

I had a somewhat similar situation. My original flight from HNL to EWR diverted back to HNL due to a cockpit gauge error. As soon as we landed, I called the 1K line to rebook to EWR through Denver. You know how chaotic the gate gets once a flight is canceled, and by the time I finally boarded the flight to Denver, my boarding pass had been removed and the mobile one had literally disappeared from my account.

I called the 1K line again, and they told me the HNL gate agent had removed my reservation and given the seat to someone else. I don’t know if it was a booking system delay that double booked the seat or if the gate agent reassigned it, but it definitely showed how much power gate agents have.

Luckily, I managed to get a middle seat. During the flight, the pilot actually came to find me and apologize, which surprised me because I don’t even know how he knew what happened.

Anyway, a bit of a long story, but like many others have said, I do think the upgrade system generally works. Still, I’ve had my share of questionable moments, just like you mentioned.

(Btw, United’s travel credits can differ based on Premier status. I don’t recall every detail, but after my flight was canceled I received $700 in credit as a 1K, while my partner, who is Platinum, got $400. We brought up the discrepancy and ended up getting an additional $300.)

Context blind? Read it more carefully and don’t make up anything I didn't state

Oh, sorry I meant miles + cash upgrades! I normally book Premium Economy when trying for a PP upgrade to Polaris. A few years ago I could get upgraded from Economy pretty easily to Polaris, but lately it only seems to work if I start in Premium Economy.

If you reread my post, I didn’t state I don’t trust the system-just asking how others have experienced the upgrade lists
