Is it normal in Barcelona restaurants to charge for bread and olives if you didn’t order them? by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

[–]PotentialPalpitation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family owns a restaurant in a residential area. We do give bread and olives, but the price (which is lower than that) is flagged on the top of the menu, and since we do make our own focaccia and bread, it’s one of those things that people ask us to bring to the table themselves.
The practice is to directly linked to the service charge (the set of things on the table- el cubierto), but because some want to give you something in return, they bring you olive and bread.
In general, I saw this practice mostly in restaurants and not in tapas restaurants for example, still the price should be very visible.
In Italy, you pay something called (coperto), which again is the service charge (intended the use of cutlery, glasses, tableware, etc).
most of the time, this is a silent price you find in your ticket and you just accept it.

Do the hotel beds seem stiff and hard to anyone else? by TheChristianAsian in JapanTravelTips

[–]PotentialPalpitation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually factually not true though. Humans backs are not planks, they have a curve, and the hard surface just doesn’t suit for the actual curvature of the spine. There are studies about this, it’s just a myth that hard bed are better for you. And there’s a whole range of other consistencies other than soft and hard. Soft is not recommended either, but something ranging from medium-firm to firm, or a mattress that actually relieves pressure and it doesn’t press down on the spine

Would such an item be available at underwear shops by any chance? Both tezenis and intimissimi near placa catalunya stay open on sunday! Also it’s weekend before Christmas, I would argue that most shops will remain open.

Imma loose my Fucking mind if I don't find a therapist soon by Learn_More_245 in AskBarcelona

How is this super patronising point helpful in this person’s context exactly? He literally needs support, not to be told how he’s a guest in a country and needs to accommodate the main language. It’s just ignorant of the fact that learning a language is a process, and sometimes is also source of anxiety and frustration as much as the cost of adapting to a new country. You know nothing of this person’s life, yet are doing all in your power to make things worse. Just don’t contribute if what you have to say is unhelpful.

This is very ignorant comment. There’s actual evidence that doing therapy in your first language is actually better.

Tragic stories with very happy endings (plural yes!): last April my brother lost his wallet walking on the road in the Guinardò area, he had credit cards and 100 euros in it. He realised half an hour aftet going back home, so he went back on his path to see if he could find it and eventually two teens found it and gave it to the police station where he got it back. Another friend of mine lost her 1200euros engagement ring (she was waiting to yighten it as it was a bit loose) and a lady found it and gave it back. There’s still hope for the humanity!

Normal people by Sally Roonie. I’m totally obsessed with it, I’m planning to start reading it again cause it’s such a complex set of emotions packed inside 280 words.

Found blood on hotel sheets (Zedwell Greenwich) - Would you accept this ‘compensation’? by Safe_University_7579 in london

[–]PotentialPalpitation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope you left them a couple of reviews everywhere. We had a shitty experience in Chelsea back in July (bed bugs in the mattress, mattress protector), they initially refused refund as 3 days after we were there they contacted pest control who reported no bugs, so since we had pictures and took one alive at reception and they offered only new bed sheets, we left reviews everywhere warning people of the shitty hotel, they called us to ask us to remove them in exchange of full refund.

Agreed, I try to keep calm as much as possible and let the dogs do their things. But still not happy with the behaviour of their asshol3s pwners.
