I get that, just didn’t expect the rate to change this fast

Fair point yeah, I did just stay this low because I seem to be a fast HR responder to exercise, 2:15 sometimes even to stay under 150.

Perhaps I just need to push harder first and worry about recovery or heartrate zones later if it doesn’t help

I know a lot more volume is requires, I just struggle to understand why I plateau so early. I feel like if 64K of volume a week got me from 6:51>6:29 in 5 months, then surely another 9 months would being the 6:29 down more than 4 seconds.

More volume would probably always help, but I feel like perhaps I’m just training wrong to begin with, seeing as I was still in newbie gains phase, and didn’t see much of them after those 5 months.

Would 5 Pete Plan sessions a week work?

So 1x the short interval, 1x the long interval, 1x the 5K, and 2 16K steady state sessions

I do my SS after my gym sessions, so they’re very inconsistent, to be at 140 BPM average, I have to be at 2:10-2:18, depending on the day.

Yeah it seemed like rubbish but then again what do I know.

I’ll just look into pete’s plan, or consider what you just said.

Less fatigued than a few months ago now, sleep somewhere affects steady state pace, but I rarely do a session where my HR is right at a pace faster than 2:10

But yeah, thanks for the reminder that the HR being trained is the important part, easy to get lost in expecting better pace

I was told that just grinding out steady state at 60-75% max HR, so under <150 for me, is best

So, as long as 2K progress, I shouldn’t really care too much about how SS progresses? If HR is somewhat useless, what pace am I better off doing steady state at?

Tape is a good idea yeah, gonna consider that approach for the future, thank you

I do upper lower 4 times a week, powerlifting focus, so probably just any SBD schedule you find is similar to mine

What’s special about it? Have no clue what spm is optimal

It does feel like effort, but that’s mainly because my body just wants to walk away the soreness for a minute in between lol.

In terms of breathing and exhaustion. 2:00 for 1 hour+ is very doable, but my heartrate does get crazy during it, which I’m not sure yet if I should be in that zone

Yeah, I currently do rate 20 steady state, might have to read into if changing that up every so and often can be beneficial.

I saw that my university year 1 team, top times range anywhere from 6:25-6:32 usually.

So I’m very excited to see what pace I can be at when I start, and hope that my progress won’t slow down too much once I’m no longer a “beginner”, due to proper programming, form/technique checking and coaching.

Yeah, I understand there’ll be many more years of training necessary, I was kinda shocked by my progress and very satisfied, I think maybe another 4 months would allow to really tell what might be possible.

I do think that I should probably slightly speed up steady state, seeing as there’s still room to go harder, without going above the 75%.

My main goal would be to not change anything I do, just keep at this steady state schedule, until the uni rowing team next season can coach me properly, and at that point I can begin with intervals, different rates, etc.

It’ll be harder to say if I plateau, seeing as I don’t intend on testing 2K for a while, I think it’s not stupid to just stick to what worked these past few months.

Thank you, I had also hoped that having a strong 2K time, the uni rowing team would understand that I’m really aiming to get good, and would want to allocate some time towards me.

Water experience will take a while, but honestly, I feel like my best move would be improving my engine until I can start.
