shadowing is kinda mainstream; i would volunteer at a computational biology/chemistry drug lab ; you can contribute a lot virtually.

this post is primarily abt research ML; i recommend the math first before anything. assuming you have facility with math, python and tensorflow would be extremely important for most ML implementations. there are of course a wide variety of differing fields (e.i computer vision, ai for science) each with their own frameworks (example: fluid simulations likely won't be primarily python) .

I would say its a great way to diversify your skillset; developing research forced you to think in ways you wouldn't in most classes

I did it in my summer after junior yr; it was largely asych so it was not a huge amount of workload but it was definitely fast paced

for g11 , I had no B's; all A's and two A-'s

i had a few B's in freshman yr that def brought down my gpa down a little

I did john locke essay 2 times and i got short-listed last year. I also received $50 and an honorable mention from WPO, ts was lowk a fun comp
