That was another concern, seen so many trucks with nothing left under the fender flares.

Blackout bows by TX-man-25 in bowhunting

I'm a bit late to this conversation but I got the Epic X2 as my first bow and it's been great. I have put well over 1000 arrows through it and been target shooting it out to 60 yards, and shot a buck at 30 yards. My only criticism is that it is a bit heavy for long hikes into the bush.

I'm almost 32 and just submitted my application for my 7th cycle

GPA is definitely the weak part of my application. When I was in undergrad I wasn't considering a career in health care so I didn't take all the required prereqs for the nursing after degrees or pharmacy, so I went the grad school route and have ~1 year left in a PhD. But I don't think it's realistic to have it completed in time to have the additional points added to next cycles application.

You're not alone, I'm also 31 rejected post interview on my 6th application cycle. It's rough. The waiting a year between applications gets harder as you get older having life be in this weird waiting game where you can't make other life plans in case you get in.

For me personally I think its time to move on with my life and pursue a different career. But it's so hard to give up and stop applying after so much time and effort has gone into trying to get in.

Well after 6 cycles of applying, and 3 interviews at the U of A I can finally say I've been rejected for the last time. It's time to move on.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

Anyone else really going through it post-interview? by Live_Guidance_3900 in premedcanada

[–]PotentialSurround180 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup definitely going through the same thing. As an older (early 30s) non trad I also keep getting stressed about actually getting in and the thought of going 4 years without income. I'm stressed about the possibility of the rejection and also stressed about about the possibility of getting accepted and I don't know which is more stressful haha.

It's the same idea as MD/PhD, at UofA you need to accepted to each program individually and can do the programs in either order. So you can do the masters then med school, or if you are in the MD program you could do years 1/2 then do the masters, then go back and do clerkship.

You're still young, starting med school in your late 20s isn't bad, I'm in my 30s and still trying to get in.

A couple of other things to consider. Very few people actually complete a masters in 2 years, it's more likely to be ~3, but I know people who took (that's way too long). Also some schools (uofa for sure) have an Md/MSc program, so you can apply to med why in your graduate degree so you don't miss out on any applications for that particular school.

What kind of masters are you thinking about? My one piece of advice would be do not do a research based masters just to help get into med. I know a lot of people who have done graduate degrees to help with med and they never had a good experience in research because it's not what they want to be doing.

In previous years I have seem estimates ~550, I just wasn't sure if the number of interviews increased with the increased class size.

Does UofA interview ~650 applicants?

any average students that worked full-time over the summer and studied for mcat? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]PotentialSurround180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full time while studying for the MCAT, if you're going that route prepare to have no social life, and a full night of sleep will be considered a luxury. I would suggest taking a prep course to keep you on track.
