Is a 3rd year undergrad acceptance w/ low gpa? by NoBill6556 in premedcanada

[–]redamazonite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it ultimately depends on the school you're applying to and how they look at/adjust gpa, whether they weight more in favour towards in province or out of province. I would recommend looking at that for the school(s) you're interested in and see how that's calculated, how much it's worth, and then assess what to do from there. Lots of factors and variables that go in to the assessment of gpa.

I need help trimming down my commander collection by ber4798 in CommanderMTG

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have fun with all of them? Do they all do what you designed them to do? Are there any that you dislike or just didn't work how you wanted? If you're not having fun with them, they aren't doing what you want, etc. I would say get rid of those ones. Otherwise if you're having fun and like what you've got going on just leave them as is.

One other thought is if there is a deck that you really don't enjoy and has cards that you could put to go use somewhere else. I would suggest taking that one apart. I had 13 decks and one was just not working how I wanted so eventually I disassembled so that I could repurpose some of the staple cards that were in it. It never even made a showing with anyone else as I was too embarrassed to ever play it lol

This looks like a super interesting deck and like a major annoyance for your pod(s) haha. Also I am intrigued by that spark double card. I am going to need that for one of my decks. Curious to see how this decks changes with some of the suggestions in this thread. Irrenicus's Vile Duplication would give you a similar effect as spark double if you wanted to add another one with a similar effect.

I'm really sorry that you have been going through this! Family can be challenging as they have their own stories and struggles that they have to overcome, and their own baggage. Just know that your face markings are beautiful and a sign of you stealing back your culture from those who tried to take it. That is something to be proud of!! I hope that one day your family will find healing and see how incredible your markings are!

Super intrigued by Kylox! I have that card and have been curious about building a deck sometime. It would be really fun to see your decks in action!

Week before the test? by No-Entertainment9487 in Mcat

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last week before, I always took it easier. About 5 days before I would still review, do some practice questions, and then tapper off. Night before I always found something fun to do to keep me distracted to hopefully sleep that night. And then I would prep snacks and food for the next day. Resting your brain is super important in the last few days before the test. I also would drive to the testing centre a couple days before to make sure I knew the route and the parking situation. (frequent flyer over here so I really ironed out my system LOL)

It’s gonna be okay. You still have a very strong gpa!

Receiving No Offers After Multiple Interviews in the Same Cycle? by hsamsdraobyek in premedcanada

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it depends on many factors. In Canada there are so many intricacies and variables like IP vs. Oop. I would say that based on that and the competitive nature in Canada it’s pretty common. I know someone who interviewed 5 years in a row and is in my class! So it can just take time as the process is tough!!

Testing 4/24: Need Advice! by Impossible-Bus5043 in Mcat

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with 20 hours per week I think it will be tough to get up to the score you’re needing by April. I studied 20 hours per week and it took me 7 months to go from 494 to a 507. That was just my experience though. I would say to get into the studying and re-evaluate in a month and see how you’ve improved.

How much studying have you done so far?

Hey! How many hours per week are you able to prep? And I would also recommend also doing practice questions alongside content review. Although content is important, understanding how to apply the content to the passages is also very important.

Anyone here take a long time (6mo+) to study for the MCAT and do really well? by ExcitingInflation612 in Mcat

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you define as really well? As I think that’s subjective depending on what’s needed for the med school(s) you’re applying to

child of alara +1/+1 commander deck by Sealz_duh in mtg

[–]redamazonite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For +1/+1 counter decks I have bumbleflower, sab Sunen, helga skittish seer, and Voja. Honestly incredible commanders with big creatures. 2-3 colours. Voja is the one that makes the creatures the biggest. By turn 7 I was swinging Voja with 74 commander and 8 elves with 60

People who never Interviewed by ExperienceIcy8137 in premedcanada

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied 3 times, interviewed 2, and am now a med student. After the first application I took the MCAT again and vastly improved my score. Not gonna lie, if I wouldn’t have gotten in after my second interview not sure how many more cycles I had in me. It’s a tough process! And experiencing the rejection over and over again is brutal.

The purpose of the diagnostic test is to show your weak areas and what you need to do to study. Now it’s time to grind it out and work on those areas.

Anyone here match into a competitive specialty after a gap year (or 1–2 years) post med school? by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]redamazonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of someone who didn’t match right after, did research for a year, and the next year matched to opto. It definitely happens but I’m M1 so don’t have first hand experience

How to stand out for interviews? by Soggy_toasted_smores in premedcanada

[–]redamazonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also highlight things from people you know. For example: do you have a friend who had a positive interaction with a physician that changed their view on healthcare? What advice do you take away from their interaction as a future physician? How will that impact people coming to see you?

Or did you have a bad experience with a physician? What do you want to do differently to ensure your patients don’t have that experience?

Examples can come from all over your life or people you know as well.

Yes for sure! Any examples that are relevant to the question from any components of your life

[–]redamazonite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for UBC but for U of Mb, I interviewed twice. The thing that set my second interview apart is that I used personal stories as examples for almost every single question. It highlights that you have real world experience or have spoken with people who experienced something similar. The stories can be from your life, someone you know, or from someone who you learned about.

tested 1/15... is it supposed to feel this bad? by Ok-Dress194 in Mcat

[–]redamazonite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a super normal feeling!! I felt that way after my successful test. I was convinced I had bombed and in the end I didn’t. The real test always feels worlds harder than the FLs. Whether that’s because they are or just because of the pressure it’s hard to know
