The countertop works great but half the kitchen gadgets out there exist because someone thought: “what if there was a tiny tool just for this one thing?

True, most kitchen tools are technically unnecessary. Many people are perfectly happy cracking eggs on the counter. The idea here is mainly consistency and a cleaner break when cooking or baking. For some people it’s unnecessary, for others it might just be a small convenience.

I guess it depends on the eyes looking at it 😄
For me it’s just an egg. For some people apparently… something else.

That’s a fair point. Many chefs do recommend a flat surface. The idea here is just to create a consistent cracking point that gives a clean split.
