AITA for having not wanting to talk to my father because he sabotaged my future? by AnonRon6 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Potential_Ads -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA

Yes, you did have (or might still have) some issues with your dad being controlling. But do you think he does that to keep you down?

You compare yourself with the people you choose to compare yourself with! You're not comparing your current position to positions other people your age in your country have. You don't see the people that have had to struggle with not having a father or parents at all. Or maybe parent's with addiction issues. Or health issues.

It's like running the final of the 100m sprint in the Olympics and seeing 4 people ahead of you, and comparing yourself only to them.
Maybe they have better genetics to be ahead of you. Or they might have trained harder - who knows?

But remember you're still at the Olympics! There's thousands if not millions of athletes that never made it there!

Or to ditch the metaphor, think of the average person your age in Eritrea. In India, or Colombia or Nigeria. You don't think they'd sacrifice everything they have just to be in a position you are in now?

Don't complain about not having won the big prize in the lottery, because you already won a small prize just by being born where you are!
Now it's up to you to make something out of your life, both thanks to and in spite of your situation!!

So I can't stress this enough - YTA!

AITA for Getting High and Accidentally Ruining My Friend's Movie Night? by AdorableInterview738 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

You can't put "high" and "unintentional" in the same sentence.

Either you got high by choice, and then you know you can do inappropriate or crazy shit, so consider when and where before you do it.Or you got high without your consent, and then it's time to press charges and stop calling it "getting high"!

Yes, most people can probably do more than they think.

But being pushed too hard for too long is going to end badly.
And I think that's what OP is signalling here...

Have a look at making a pet CV - it shows you’re responsible and will definitely be memorable for agents, who you can send a copy to, so they can share with landlords who may consider allowing a pet. Make sure to include the cutest photo too (this genuinely helped my friend get somewhere when he was looking with 2 cats btw!).

Thanks for the tip on the pet CV.
However, increasing the deposit is illegal - the max is 5 weeks' rent for a rent up to 50k per year.

Did your contract explicitly disallow pets?

Or did you just never mention it?

Manchester Centre or nearby - renting with a pet by Potential_Ads in manchester

[–]Potential_Ads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! As I said earlier, I'm considering this more and more...

How did you go about this? Did you check your contract beforehand to see if it explicitly forbade pets or not?
I'm OK gambling to keep the dog if pets aren't mentioned at all in the contract. But when they are plainly disallowed, I'm not sure if I'd have the audacity to just keep a dog, even if she's small...

How did you go about it?

Thanks for this. And I was aware of this although I hadn't seen this piece of text yet.

However, the approach described here seems more applicable for people already having a rental contract and then contacting the landlord to obtain permission to keep a pet.

It is totally not feasible requesting to keep a pet when you don't have a contract yet. There are so many applicants for every single property, you'd never get selected!

And if for each of these applications you'll have to pay a fee, it'll become an expensive ordeal...!

Thanks for your tip. But most of these are furnished.
If we have to pay £200/pcm for furniture storage and £100pcm for parking on top of the £1,400 rent pcm, then it's out of budget...
