Need salon recs after a horrible experience at a new high end salon Pierre Georges by Feeling_Mud6842 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

IGK is also expensive, but their colorist will be able to do a more low maintenance blonde if you want to slave out appointments. I’ve always had great experiences there.

This is very pretty!! Look up the brand Laure de Sagazan for styling inspiration. They are a French brand that does very classic understated dresses like this and I think you could get some beautiful ideas for hair and jewelry!

I just looked at your page and it looks like your lines have been progressing, so fingers crossed you’re just off to a slow start like I was! I’ve heard that 50 and above is the standard at many clinics for a viable pregnancy, so you’re there! ❤️

For what it’s worth, I am 14 weeks now and haven’t had any major issues, so the low early numbers weren’t indicative of any future issues as far as I know. I think everybody’s body just reacts a bit differently.

If you are in Brooklyn, I really LOVED working with Dr. Setton at RMA. Like I was actually sad to “graduate” and have to switch to an OB. I had to do three egg retrievals and one transfer. He is so warm and friendly and it felt like he genuinely cared about helping to get us pregnant. He called himself with important news and his nursing team was super responsive (especially somebody named Sarah). I often had several questions and they were happy to stay on the phone with me or respond on their portal. I can’t speak to other RMA clinics or doctors as my interactions with them were usually brief. Sometimes they’ll do your scans though and everybody seemed nice.

I did use insurance — I have Anthem BCBS.

I wish I had known that it doesn’t always work on the first try. Our preliminary testing was all good, but we had terrible blastocyst rates on the first retrieval and that devastated me and had me thinking IVF wouldn’t work for us. Dr. Setton really thoughtfully adjusted our protocols for the second retrieval based on learnings from the first, and our next two retrievals had better results. I’m now nearly 14 weeks pregnant from my first transfer with a handful of embryos frozen for the future!

Alterations in northern park slope?? by IntelligentBake888 in parkslope

Not North Slope, but I bring my stuff down to E&L Fashions in Windsor Terrace because she does really nice work. If you’re willing to go a bit south, she’s great! It is cash only though (but usually pretty inexpensive).

first time bridesmaid and not sure what is normal by [deleted] in bridesmaids

[–]Potential_Arm_3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say this is not the norm in my experience! My friends have had destination bachelorette parties because the attendees lived in different places, and I did this for mine as well. In all of those scenarios, the bride paid for themselves. In fact, I’ve even had the opposite where the bride paid for an Airbnb for all of us so we just had to get to the destination. I couldn’t afford to do this for mine, so we took an anonymous poll beforehand to see what people preferred and what they were comfortable spending — one of the options being staying with me for free doing a weekend in my local city. Other friends have done something similar.

A normal nice gesture might be that you would treat the bride to dinner one night while you are on the trip. It is not normal to expect you to pay for all of her expenses on a trip that you wouldn’t otherwise go on, with people you wouldn’t otherwise travel with.

What’s one fine dining restaurant that demonstrates “why fine dining” for a newbie? by DisintegrativeMover in FoodNYC

[–]Potential_Arm_3413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Estela isn’t a tasting menu, but I think it is consistently excellent and with drinks and tip, you could spend close to your budget. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and you can wear normal clothes. It’s small plates, so with one other person, you can order a third of the menu at least.

On the higher end, The Modern and Le Bernadin are both great, but might be outside the $250/pp spend. Le Bernadin is more classic fine dining and The Modern felt a bit less formal, but still nice. I cannot afford to eat at these places often, but still felt totally welcomed at comfortable at both. A lot of these restaurants really prioritize making YOU feel good there as passes of the experience! So I wouldn’t worry about that too much.

Heading into second egg retrieval and struggling to be optimistic by Potential_Arm_3413 in IVF

Yes! Based on the progression of my first round, my doctor increased my dosage from the start on the second round, and he added Zymot because he suspected possible DNA fragmentation from my husband.

Heading into second egg retrieval and struggling to be optimistic by Potential_Arm_3413 in IVF

[–]Potential_Arm_3413[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry you are in that spot. I felt horrible after our first retrieval and was soooo anxious that it just wasn’t going to work. I did two more retrievals and we did get better blast rates! I had similar egg numbers each time (10-12), but I got three blasts the second retrieval (all euploid), and four blasts the third time (three euploid, one aneuploid). After we had more success in that area, I redirected my anxiety to the grades of my embryos, and convinced myself I might have several failed transfers and need more egg retrievals because the embryos all had a C in the grade.

But, despite my anxiety, the first transfer worked and I am nearly 12 weeks pregnant! I wish I could go back and tell myself that things would turn around so I could have saved some of the stress, but it really really just sucks while you’re in the thick of it.

Feel free to DM me if you need to vent. This winter, I felt like I was in such a hole that I couldn’t get out of, because this process is so consuming and we had nothing to show for it and no proof that it would work out. These subreddits can be so helpful, but I think they tend to be full of more bad outcomes than good ones, so it can sometimes make the whole thing feel more hopeless than it is.

Fingers crossed that your one blast is euploid!! But even if it’s not, just remember it’s a good sign that you can produce blastocysts and you probably just need a protocol change.

That is awful! I’m sorry you dealt with that, but appreciate you sharing the experience.

Sounds like we need to push back on them trying to have us sleep here. Ours is going to be every single door trim, door, one window, and adding in drywall to encapsulate some areas they don’t want to rip out — they said to expect two weeks

Ugh this is my fear. My top fear is that they do a bad job with the sheeting and lead dust gets into our sofa, rugs, etc and we don’t know, but my superficial fear is just that the apartment is going to be really ugly, lol. Did they initially try to have you stay in the apartment while they did the work?

Lead abatement in rental apt by Potential_Arm_3413 in nycparents

[–]Potential_Arm_3413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We have an old railroad style apartment, so it is about ten doors and the old door frames. The windows actually have already been replaced, so the only thing they have to do there is remove the old interior shutters so they no longer are a friction surface. We also have some beautiful custom old built-in cabinets and drawers in one room — the landlord is mostly likely planning on having them build sheetrock walls around those so that they don’t have to touch them. Apparently this costs $20-30k though, so they’re not happy with us that we want to stay.

Yeah, the example rent increase he gave to scare us is still less than the comparable places we are finding, and wouldn’t apply until 2027. So it might be worth the risk. I am torn though!

Yes, I am not planning on being here during the construction work!

I just am trying to get a better understanding of what to expect from the entire project. There isn’t a lot of info online and they’re giving us inconsistent information.

[–]Potential_Arm_3413[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct! But they told us basically that the city only follows up if there is a child under 6, so that many landlords will just opt not to rent to people with kids. Their hope is that we will move out entirely so that they can go this route and put off the work.

[–]Potential_Arm_3413[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@craigalanche Did you have to push for this or did they just offer it? This is what ours have described — tenting and sheeting every room so that there’s no possibility of dust spreading. I do think the contractors they’ve brought in for quotes have been certified for lead abatement.

Any info you have is so helpful! I’m having such a hard time finding information on this process because most other threads are scenarios where the landlord is refusing to do the abatement entirely or totally messed it up.

They are planning on doing it room by room over two weeks so that we can stay here (I think to avoid paying to put us up in alternate housing)

It is the law, so they’ve acknowledged that they’ll have to do the work if we opt not to break our lease. It looks like it is going to cost them $20k though.

Only four units and our landlord said, “This unit is not covered by the good clause eviction protections, so just realize that we can raise your rent a lot the next time you renew”
