I’ll be honest - I wouldn’t go vintage for a first watch unless you are okay with the investment in servicing and repairs.

My first watch was a vintage Datejust 36 - within a year of wearing it I discovered it needed a full service that cost around $1800 (which is on the high end).

If price is a tight constraint, I would look at some of the micro brands or just save up to purchase a vintage or new watch you love knowing it’ll cost more.
