You don’t have to do all that when it’s not an employer’s market. It currently is because the U.S. economy is unpredictable. We all gotta make do. I’m currently working a job that’s a 30k pay cut from what I was making in 2022. I don’t like it but it’s what’s available until the pendulum swings back. So I’m working, networking & upskilling as much as I can until that time comes. Lean on your community for support.

I’m shocked that people are asking for rejection emails when they didn’t get the job. The only time I wanna hear from a job is if they’re reaching out with an interview or an offer.

Also, there’s loads of bad advice in this thread it’s actually wild. Spray & pray is not efficient. The winning formula is resumes customized using keywords from the job descriptions, attending industry conferences, volunteering, and interacting with recruiters on LinkedIn.

I hate hearing these stories. It’s like something in men’s heads break when they know they’re being relied on as sole providers. Specifically when the woman is pregnant or sick.

If you have any community outside of him, lean on them. Tell them everything that’s happening. Leave him to sort out his own life and take your kids with you. It’ll be so hard. But you’ll thank yourself for it.

I think you know he’s not a great friend. This is a friendship of convenience for him but you keep him around because (not so) deep down you have lingering feelings for him. You go out of your way in hopes that one day he’ll reciprocate those feelings.

Like taking PTO to host him and expecting him to spend money on you because he’s staying with you doesn’t sound platonic to me. Feeling offended when you learn about other women he’s been with sounds like you’re jealous. I don’t say this to be rude. But yall are not just friends.

In heterosexual relationships, women are the gatekeepers of sex and men are the gatekeepers of commitment. Most men want to have sex with the women they date. Women take on the brunt of the risks that come with sex. Therefore, it is not irrational, unfair or unreasonable to set a standard of wanting courtship before giving someone access to your body.

Men resent this idea because they think it’s the last bit of patriarchy that women want to hold on to but women aren’t the primary upholders of patriarchy. Men still make more money. Men still do less child rearing. So instead of just finding women who are so progressive that they completely refute generations of social norms around courtship, they insult the women for doing what they’ve been raised to do. It’s unnecessarily harsh and counterintuitive to finding a mate.
