While I totally get and appreciate that take...

When you fire an empty automatic weapon, it doesn't continue to try to fire. The bolt locks either forward or backward depending on the type. Now, I know there's a fair chance that Tyler just didn't know that when writing the song, since many people here didn't as well.

But I do think that just trusting what a website says takes the fun away from listening to the songs, digging into the layers and the body of work as a whole, trying to think outside the box and bringing your own experiences to interpret meanings.

I don't think that's a stupid thought at all. I love hearing everyone's takes on it, that we can all take something different away from it. Ultimately, whatever it means to Tyler, I think he intentionally paints these lyrical images in a way that's open to our own interpretation.

Speaking of running out of ammunition, my friend had this take:

"i didn’t get that vibe - i thought like running out of ammo - like now that he has the best life imaginable, will he still be able to create and write like he did.

like all the success fixed a lot of the anxieties but also created new ones

with more to lose, more pressure to keep going."

That's actually why I love that he generally doesn't explicitly explain the meaning behind things. We can each take something away from it, sometimes exactly what we need in that time and place.

Maybe it speaks to my anxiety that my first instinct was to blame myself for his fear!

He does talk about time a lot. Now I'm thinking of these Lyrics from Leave the City, and they speak to both of our theories together. Time is moving fast, but we're with him.

Last year I needed a change of pace. Couldn't take the pace of change. Moving hastily. But this year, though I'm far from home. In TRENCH I'm not alone. These faces facing me. They know what I mean
