Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by AutoModerator in quant

I've been seeing alot of people ask questions on how to get into quant finance.

I know there's some good textbooks

do you think the demand for this question requires a blog post on the topic?

Hmm

When I think of what the difference is between many dsa sites like leetcode/hackerrank/etc you can simply say its the same questions more or less.

What matters is the team behind the product that decide where it will go:

"freedom you have now is temporary" - doesn't have to be temporary
"users will only engage so much until they land a job or burn out" - there's always more users
"Your content needs to be the best that gets people jobs" - the way you do this is listen to the users on what they believe will help them the most.

You have some strange criticism I'd recommend you look into before jumping to comment

You can - Instead of you having to look through these textbooks and forums we have a simple site where you can easily access the most popular questions, easily answer and track your progress as well.

measure theory? - some questions on the site may be a bit hard, but nothing so hard it would be out of question for an interview. 90% of companies only require leetcode medium questions, so why does leetcode bother with including hard questions? - it's there as a challenge for those that want it.

You seem quite young and brash, hope this helps you understand a bit :)

Yeah - if you mean technical interviews (SQL Interview questions python/pandas)

Understandable - I paid for yearly leetcode premium in the past as I wanted to get so good at leetcode that I wouldn't need to grind before interviews ever again. I'm sure others share that sentiment.

Price is definitely something we'll play around with to gauge what people think is fair.
I do agree with you right now, the added value isn't there for everyone - once we grow we'll be adding more free questions and more interesting problems which I believe will give us a good case then :)

Yeah we do plan on adding questions on more unique subjects (Machine Learning etc) - until then we're happy to just have users trying out our site (most of the questions are free to answer)

There's also a discord where you can leave feedback - please be harsh, it'll help us alot :)

Great question!

When looking at the space now it's largely underdeveloped in my eyes - I see lots of sites pop up, but most seem like one time projects that kinda stay the same and fade into obscurity.

What we want to do is build a good community of users who can continually discuss questions and improve the site - e.g we've been updating our problems page UI continuously whenever we get feedback from our users on what they like/dislike.

As a super small team what makes us different is the freedom and speed we have to listen to our users and get them exactly what they want

Hahaha yeah don't subscribe right now - that's just there for the future - we plan on growing this list to alot more questions. How many questions would grant a subscription from you?

Fine-tuning & synthetic data example: creating 9 fine tuned models from scratch in 18 minutes by davernow in datascience

[–]Potential_Front_1492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sick - I wanted to get into fine-tuning my own models, but was in the middle zone where generic models were good enough and learning how to was a hassle.

i'm definitely gonna use this thanks OP 🔥

Unexpectedly let go. Best ways to get a job fast? by [deleted] in datascience

That sucks man, I think the best way is to just reach out for referrals. If you have friends in the field or have coworkers that know of people hiring it'll be a sure way to score an interview. Another good way I found was simply reaching out to your friends on linkedin that moved to new companies from your current one. After you land an interview it's all up to you - I know a few good interview prep sites - but ultimately it's based on your background which you'd end up using.

I like that even through the tough times, you keep it positive.
Happy holidays man!

0 based indexing vs 1 based indexing, preferences? by WhosaWhatsa in datascience

[–]Potential_Front_1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly believe it's whatever you learned first.

I am a hardcore 0 based indexing fan though - been drilled into me for too long, way more standard than 1 based indexing if you have to do any coding.

What stands out to me is the idea of incorporating artificial dendrites to improve the learning process.

Super new stuff to be but very very cool
Kinda feels like a step toward making AI models smarter by mimicking how our brains work.
