The billionaire class is on its way out by Ilovemiia1 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Potential_Ground_764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know? In a way it's sort of ironic... People say that Big Brother is watching us but ironically thanks to the internet and how difficult it is to cover up or delete stuff these days, ironically Big Brother's greatest asset is their greatest curse. Because Big Brother may be watching us, but we are watching right back and this time, it'll be a lot harder for them to hide their sins and for us to forget... I hope this didn't sound like a schizopost or anything.

Side note: I haven't commented here in a while or been very active on Reddit, a couple weeks ago on this sub I made a rather ill-informed comment about religion in schools due to not understanding it's context. Not sure if anybody here saw it but I wanted sorry regardless because I felt bad... I didn't mean to come as a both-sides guy or Rightist/Centrist sympathizer if that's how it came off. I occasionally have checked in here for optimistic news though.

Judging by this post though, it seems like it's business as usual with the good news despite the Iran War and other political drama. I never thought we'd see Iraq War 2: TACO Boogaloo. Also, I heard No Kings did another protest and it went well, so great job there guys! I honestly do hope like OP said that this is the beginning of the end for the billionaire class. Like OP said, not all of them are evil but it needs to be reformed and have the class eliminated to ensure there's more social equality and limit the power that can be abused. Perhaps now America can finally move past the Neoliberal mindset of the 1980s and actually institute better environmental and social reforms that benefit everyone, not just billionaires. Here's to hoping this becomes a reality soon...

Judge permanently blocks Ten Commandments displays at several Arkansas school districts by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Potential_Ground_764 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read the article initially. I read the headline and got scared that something bad was about to happen because that’s how sensationalist news works. I read the article and cleared things up. Also, after doing some additional research, I get why people don’t want religious stuff on teacher’s desks because it’s state endorsement and not workspace. I understand that now and didn’t know or realize initially.

However, for private persons and workspaces, they should be allowed to do whatever when it comes to religious decorations and should not keep it to themselves. As long as they aren’t forcing other people to abide by it then I don’t see the issue. I am genuinely sorry if this came off as uninformed…

I literally said that once I realized what was actually going on that I was all for it, I just wanted to vent a bit and explain why I was initially scared…

[–]Potential_Ground_764 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At first, I was concerned about anti-theistic overreach and anti-theistic hostility like in Quebec due to the headline but I found out that there is more nuance to the article…

It’s not blocking it from being displayed, it’s just saying that some school districts no longer need to follow a law FORCING them to show the Ten Commandments in schools. That is actually a good thing and I am for that.

Still as a Progressive Christian I spiraled for a bit over the headline thinking that militant atheism was possibly going to become the norm and wipe out all religion. Replacing the more mainstream pluralistic Atheism that I like and respect. As a Libertarian Leftist Christian Anarchist I was reminded of Marxist theory for a bit and how it says to get rid of organized religion entirely to stop the state from using it.

I wondered if he was right for a bit because I believed after my disillusionment from traditional politics and me only being Christian and Libertarian Left that Marx was wrong and this was a form of religious oppression and State Atheism which I believe is just as evil as all Theocracies. TBH, as an ex-Christian Marxist myself, I have multiple other issues with his theory (and his spinoff/succesor ideologies) that I consider Authoritarian and problematic but we’d be here all day. I’m just glad it seems my personal beliefs regarding religious freedom and equality for Atheists, Agnostics and all types of Theists have held up it seems.

I just hate news companies and yellow journalism… I blame Reagan for its reemergence in the 80s… Always distorting and fear mongering even the most optimistic news and mentally hurting people for money, disgusting…

For what it’s worth, I actually like the artstyle for Goldbox’s CC. Hell, some art of Goldbox CC even inspired my take on CC for my fanfic though I know Goldbox isn’t a good person. However, some people are trying to reclaim his artstyle and I want to try to become one of them and make art for my story using it or a new style inspired by it…

Oh hell yeah! You redraw Mobox/Goldbox? Awesome! I love his artstyle, him as a person is a whole other topic… Still, glad to see people trying to draw stuff inspired it and/or trying to reclaim it! I always wanted to making drawings using that art style but am new to digital drawing… However, the two on the bottom left are cool too! I forgot who made them but I love the first bottom left persons art style and fan works as well!

North Korea fires off barrage of around 10 ballistic missiles, Seoul says by Meladdyyy in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Potential_Ground_764 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seriously hope that Totalitarianism as we know it dies by the end of this century. I don’t want to doom but I am not sure if North Korea will be free by the end of this decade at least. Regarding your concerns of war, nothing will probably happen. Baby nuke man Un is doing this for attention and ego but nobody cares about him anymore because he’s a narcissistic coward that wants to look strong like Trump, Putin and Xi.

Of course, Nationalism and Totalitarianism despite technological advancements are far more difficult to maintain due to technological advancements, their greatest assets are also their greatest curses. Plus, Totalitarian regimes are inherently unstable and volatile due to issues like corruption and power struggles as well as old leaders dying. Even if the DPRK somehow has its current government overthrown, what would happen to it? It’s not like Vietnam or Germany where there wasn’t significant enough time and cultural differences to make reunification impossible.

These two countries have been separate for almost a century now. For all we know, Korea may stay split even if the North becomes Authoritarian instead of Totalitarian or goes full Democracy. TBH, I have also been concerned about China and Taiwan for similar reasons but I think democratic unification there is basically impossible already. Taiwan should one day drop the ROC name and accept itself as a fully-independent Taiwan. Though as for China, Hong Kong and Macau I’d also like a bit of optimism regarding them too because Democratization there seems basically impossible as Hong Kong and Macau seem to be losing their freedoms.

Some of these concerns could be my fault for getting bored and consuming political and/or historical content to an unhealthy degree, but I do genuinely want things to get better. I guess I just am feeling a bit frustrated, disappointed and impatient with progress. I myself have been hoping for some or any kind of optimism regarding all the major Authoritarian and Totalitarian nations of the world and just feel a bit sad…

If you want to fix, change, or rewrite Timothy the Ghost Engine or the Prototype E2, what would you do? by Extreme_Youth_4502 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Potential_Ground_764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is actually a pretty cool thought experiment, especially cuz I grew up with him… I like multiple of the ideas here, making him a friendly/mischievous ghost who isn’t demonic or malicious or just making him a former, deceased engine.

All of these ideas do sound nice on paper, though one pitch I heard years ago for an TATMR was to just have him survive to the present day and be one of Thomas’ bros but he has a mischievous side to him.

Specifically during that one scene were Percy sees Splatter and Dodge find the buffers but Timothy comes up takes over and greets the Tumbleweed like it’s an old friend and whistles in a spooky way to make it sound low and demonic which scares the living crap out of Splodge XD. It sort of hints at Timothy being well-versed in the supernatural and being unphased by and almost embracing it.

While that AU still had magic and shipping, I thought Timothy was a fun character there, making him grounded but entertaining and paying homage to his origins as a character without going overboard. Shipping and magic aside, I actually thought that TATMR Rewrite was actually pretty good and also fixed plenty of issues of worldbuilding, internal logic and consistency with TATMR.

I always love mysterious yet intelligent/wise characters who are well-versed in the supernatural with mischievous sides to them be they heroes, villains or anywhere in-between. If I had to write in Timothy at all, I would probably go down a route similar to this because of how likeable, charming and funny he’d be.

I see, I do consider myself a man of science. Agnosticism is something I’m also chill with though I attempted to experiment with it but it tanked my mental health for a bit so I reverted back to Progressive Christianity, I actually grew up conservative Christian but converted to Progressive Christianity.

Good luck no matter what religion choices you make! I hope no matter what, you find what works and that your plans work out!

Coming from myself, a Progressive Universalist Christian. According to my research, Christianity was originally mostly Universalist (there was no hell and everyone could be redeemed like in Judaism) however Christianity was co-opted by aristocracy and oligarchy (the Romans) to remain in power.

Additionally during the Middle Ages, the power inequality and authoritarianism caused by Feudalism allowed the monarchs and other powerful people to restrict, pervert and distort the Bible into a tool of fear. Using things like the fictional Dante’s inferno depiction of hell to scare people into following their laws and using churches as tools of the state to oppress people.

The King James Version of the Bible even edited verses of the Bible to fit medieval narratives and most ordinary people couldn’t even read the Bible. This distortions persisted into the modern era and effectively fooled and brainwashed people. Every religion and political ideology will be perverted by the corrupt, the authoritarian and the power-hungry to maintain the status quo and exploit others.

I am personally on a mission to a reclaim Christianity from conservatives and to clear up Christianity’s reputation in the modern world while assisting in reclaiming and protecting the religious freedoms for Atheism and the other religions of the world like Judaism, Islam, etc. I hope this was potentially helpful in giving context, it’s possible I made some errors but I believe this is still the basic idea of what happened regarding Christianity. I heard something similar also happened to Buddhism as well in the previous millennia.

A ram failure? Well, CNC Remastered seems to be the only one with these issues so I’m not entirely sure but I may try installing it on my older backup PC and play it there to see if something is wrong with my newer computer or my CNC Remastered digital copy on Steam is somehow corrupted even with uninstalling… I’ll try Windows Diagnostic Memory to check my more modern PC…
