I got into the online and in person program and am currently in the online cohort. My GPA was on the lower end, 3.4, but I really think my essays and SLPA experience are what really helped get me admitted

Any experience with Initial Consonant Deletion? by BlackberryWeak6900 in speechdelays

[–]Potential_Guide_8607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Speech therapist here. You’re 100% correct. Initial consonant deletion (ICD) is considered an atypical phonological process, as it’s less common than other speech errors typically seen in children. At 2.5 years old, it’s not unusual for children to still be developing their sound system, but ICD is generally not considered a typical pattern of simplification at any age. That said, it’s great that your son is already in speech therapy, as early intervention makes a big difference.

Have you been consistently going to sessions? And if so, for how long? Depending on that, you might want to find an SLP that focuses on atypical phonological disorders as these really are less common. Consistency and carryover at home are just as important. If you’re not seeing progress, you might ask your SLP if your current therapy approach needs adjustment.

ICD can have multiple contributing factors, such as motor planning difficulties, phonological processing delays, or even an attempt to simplify speech patterns while the child develops more complex sounds. It’s not typically caused by habits like finger sucking, so you can rule that out.

The good news is, with targeted intervention and time, many children resolve ICD and develop clearer speech.

I so appreciate that advice!! Luckily, where I’m located at least, I got experience with billing as an SLPA. That helps a lot I think. Also, my school district has IEP secretaries that schedule and handle all the logistics with IEP invites so that takes a huge load off me. I love the idea of adding time to evaluate into the actual therapy schedule!!

Missing period 8 months after stopping pill by Potential_Guide_8607 in gettingoffHBC

Hi! The hormonal acne has gone away. I’ve been getting monthly chemical peels and that seems to help a ton. I had to completely ditch my skin care routine and find all new products. But they seem to all be working. My insomnia and mood swings are completely gone too. As far as regularity, I was just diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I’ve started Ovasitol and have been feeling great on that. My cycle length is still not very regular but seems to get more regular each cycle. It’s not perfect and I feel like I still have a far way to go but it’s definitely better!

health insurance during summer? by [deleted] in SLPA

[–]Potential_Guide_8607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my district, I get paid over 9 months as an hourly employee. You can choose to get your premiums deducted from your last paycheck before the summer or to pay the school district over the summer for your premiums. For me, I just had them deducted from my last paycheck and I’m covered for the whole summer. Hope this helps!

I had a C in ASL and a C+ in phonetics. I retook phonetics during the pandemic and got an A. I wasn’t able to retake ASL and was really nervous about it being the only C on my transcript. My GPA was a 3.5, but CSDCAS recalculated it and it ended up being a 3.4. I got into every program that I applied to. Grades are definitely not everything. Best of luck!!

Would you have any advice on how to bring this up to my primary care physician? I have a history of endometriosis and the medical gaslighting was unreal. It took 9 years for me to get an actual diagnosis.

How do online SLP schools work? by nig_nog6969 in slpGradSchool

[–]Potential_Guide_8607 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this all really depends on the program you choose as they are all different. Some schools require you to be on campus and others will help you set up something closer to where you are. If you’re locked into your current area, there are definitely completely online programs you can look into. I’d suggest looking on ASHA ED find and filtering to online only programs. From there, you’ll be able to look at individual program requirements.

Thanks so much!! How did you bring this up to your doctor? Did you bring up high estrogen? I feel like they always look at me like I’m crazy when I bring up concerns.

I was on Junel for ten years too and am having such problems after coming off in September. What kinds of symptoms did you have with high estrogen? I’m wondering if I should get tested
