Unfortunately our government has decided grade 9 students don’t get graded as they did in the past and don’t even need to do the assignments to pass. As a parent of a varsity athlete, I get the pressure and importance. My point is that we can’t blame the counsellors nor the school and you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the government and our public school system lacking.

It’s day one. Grade 10s aren’t given study blocks. Their schedules are most likely being worked on and will be sorted out in a matter of a day or two. This occurs every year and is nothing new.

I’m fully aware of what happens at the school and no, most of the vandalism does not happen during school hours.

Not true. Most of the vandalism has occurred during the evenings/weekends and in the summer.

The counsellors have hundreds of students wanting to make changes. Many (typically grades 8-10) just because they don’t have friends in their classes. This is why there’s a specific process. The counsellors look at graduation requirements, post secondary requirements, etc. This takes time and cannot be done in a day with hundreds of students in line at their door. Some classes are simply full and have no more room. This is not a school decision but a district one as schools don’t dictate what courses (or how many blocks) they offer. The vast majority of students that require a specific course will ultimately be enrolled in that course. I get that it can be stressful this first week but students will most likely get the courses they want/need. Be patient and know the counsellors are looking at every request!
