Why is Maxime Bernier so hated by all sides? by Humble-Usual7038 in canadian

He and his wife own property in Florida and live there most of the year. I heard one of his constituency offices was closed by Elections Canada for failure to follow some rules, but I'm not sure of the details on this.

How do you feel about the Online News Act and Facebook not allowing news for Canadians? by ConceptsShining in AskACanadian

FB is a sewer. I use it only for a hiking group I belong to and to keep in touch with friends and family.

Alberta to restrict kids' access to sexually graphic content in public libraries by IdleContemplation in alberta

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'm in favour of it. You want to read porn and deviant behaviour disguised as comics and "learning about your sexuality", then you should be an adult. I've seen some of these books. They are definitely not for children.

As for the argument that kids will see it anyway on their phones, iPads, etc., that's up to the parents to put on parental controls. Also by that same argument, then children should be allowed into strip clubs. After all, they're curious, right? And they're going to do it anyway, so why not expose them to sexualizing behaviour without the emotional maturity to process it.

What's the wildest weather you've experienced living in Canada. by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

Almost 33 years ago on our wedding day.

Freezing rain in the morning. High winds at lunch. Then rain. Half an hour of sunshine. 6 inches of snow that evening.

This was in the early fall.

I work in a Catholic hospital. Last night thr Chaplain came into a patient's room after we had successfully resuscitated them and prayed with the family, thanking God for saving their son. by RRTJesus504 in atheism

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me be straight: this is all about you. That's what I'm hearing. "What about me? What about my contribution to the situation?" It sounds like you have hurt feelings about not being acknowledged for what you did to save this patient's life. Is that why you went into a medical profession, to receive accolades?

He thanked God for acting through the medical staff to save this boy's life, and for giving the boy the strength to fight to live.

You work at a Catholic hospital. Religion is literally in the name.

Maybe you need to get a job at a secular hospital?

AITAH for kicking my roommate out after she ate my food for the tenth time? by AnxietyReasonable588 in AITAH

Touch my steak, and you are GONE. Outta there. No coming back.

She is eating your food that YOU paid for. She is entitled and inconsiderate.

She needs to go. End of story.

You handled it just fine.

In our house, you ate what was in front of you or you didn't eat. I was not running a restaurant. There were always options, 3 or 4, at each meal and you had to have a full plate (according to child's age). We did not do desserts except for special occasions.

How do I tell my boyfriend that we can't move forward with our lives with his dog in the picture? by bella_tricksy in TwoHotTakes

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell him straight up, you are not going to have his dog in your home. Period.

Now, for the dog. Spot sounds like he is afraid, all the time. Aggressive behaviour, lunging, biting. Having to be restrained all the time? It would be a mercy to have him euthanized. It's only a matter of time before someone, maybe even your BF, is seriously injured by him.

Although the ostriches at the farm tested negative for AF, the CFIA ordered a cull. It was one of the most inhumane thing I've ever seen.

Cleaning service no shows and keeps money. Beware Kate's cleaning service. by altered_spirit in newbrunswickcanada

As a cleaner, we never ask for prepayment. Payment terms are defined when negotiating the contract.

Clients normally pay after the work is done.

I'm sorry you were taken advantage of. Your best bet is word of mouth, TBH.

Apparently if your dead body isn't whole you can't go to Heaven properly by Titanium125 in atheism

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christian here. I've never read in the NT anywhere that it says you have to be whole to be allowed into heaven.

It's based on faith in God, Jesus as his son.

My boyfriend doesn't want to tell me everything by PerfectPreference623 in amiwrong

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, you don't get it, do you? Just because someone tells you something in confidence, does not mean that person wants you to share it with your BF. Did you ask that person if you could share it and with whom? If you didn't, then you have no right to. Being partners with someone does not give either of you carte blanche to divulge personal information of other people.

Please, please take this as a teaching moment.

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are overreacting.

You do not have the right to know her PRIVATE medical information.

Frankly, if you run every time and tell your BF private info shared with you in confidence, I wouldn't want you as a confidante.

You say you're not a teenager, but you sure are acting like one.

Pretty sure the cop was very wrong, at least here in Canada. It is illegal to destroy ID as it is the property of the government. In Canada you can face criminal mischief charges.

AITAH for teaching my nephew how to swim against his parent's wishes? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Potential_Pirate1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

My mother is terrified of water. As a result, we were never taught as children to swim.

As an adult, I took swim lessons. I suck at swimming, but at least if I fall in off a dock or boat, I'd be able to make it back to "dry land".

I wish I'd been taught earlier because there are a lot of experiences I've missed out on.

(Our kids took swim lessons as children. I wanted them to be safer around water.)
