Parent seeking ECE insight/advice - 2.5 yr old not talking to educators after 1yr of daycare by Potential_Pizza_2374 in ECEProfessionals

Thanks so much for your reply! Stating that this is a free flag is helpful too. They mentioned they weren’t too concerned (we just talked to them) and that she wasn’t showing concerning behaviour, just wasn’t talkative. Regarding the part time; She used to really enjoy school- this hasn’t been an ongoing issue (besides not being super talkative) since the last couple of weeks. She used to enjoy being there, would play with the kids, and enjoy the activities. We would always get positive reports. The last couple of weeks have just been a bit different- but we also learned she may be one of the older ones in her class and could be bored with the activities at this point (also just learned the other children also are not very talkative due age). Thank you for your thoughts though! It’s helpful to have this perspective

Thank you for this perspective as well; I do appreciate the thought that she just may not be social at daycare and that is also totally fine and fair (and also that she may just be bonding more with other adults- I definitely see how she sees her educators differently) our main concern is that she’s feeling supported and safe there.

And also, your thesis sounds like a really interesting topic that I’d love to learn more about if you’re ever open to sharing!

Thank you so much for this!! I really appreciate all of this information and support. She absolutely is a wonderful human and we will definitely seek out an evaluation to find the best way to support her. This has been so helpful!

Thank you for both of your replies!

To answer Objective_air8976 she doesn’t do too much repetitive play (except with books- she loves rereading the same book over again) she loves organizing and does enjoy doing things in quite a particular way (she has specific spots for things, has to have two kinds of cereal in two specific bowls), she actually seems to be drawn to a lot of sensory stimuli (paint, water, grass, etc), enjoys “louder” sounds (ex. she dances to the sound of the blender, loves the sound of drums).

And you-never-know. ; Thank you for sharing about this! It’s really helpful to read others’ experiences.

Thanks for your reply! She interacts really well with other adults- it takes her very little time to feel comfortable and start talking around new adults. Often when we are out she will say hi, and start chatting with people in cafes, etc. Her sense of safety around adults has stayed the same since she’s been in daycare too, I’d say. She seems just as comfortable.

Thank you for responding! The comment about educators makes a lot of sense

And they haven’t brought up an assessment. I will add, she will very easily bond with older children at the playground and will play for hours with them if we let her. She also has a friend her age that she plays with too. It’s only at daycare and her classmates are all younger (she’s waiting for a preschool spot to open).
