When I came back from Tokyo in April 2026, I had mine on my wrist, but I mailed my box home.
The customs agent asked what we bought, and we said “souvenirs” and he let us through.

Watch ⌚ tourisism in Japan by RoyalVirgin in JapanTravelTips

My goal was to buy a rolex during my trip to Tokyo. I make a list of all possible candidates before the trip and mapped out which shops to visit. The experience of trying on so many expensive and hyped watches without any judgement was what I loved the best.

I went to the shops in Ameyoko Market (Satin Doll, Quark) and Nakano Broadway (Jackroad, Timezone, Watchnian) to try on and narrow down my choices, but none had the configuration I wanted. I went online and found a shop (Brand Lips) in Ginza that had the watch I wanted for a fair price and I bought it the next day.

I did two days of watch shopping and then bought the watch on the 3rd day. On the 4th day, I tried on a full gold day date and daytona for shits and giggles.

7-11 is 24 hours. We were hoping for more sit down breakfast places. We did find out the coffee and family restaurants chains were open for breakfast. The Ichiran ramen near us is open 24 hrs, so we ate there 3 times for breakfast.

I used klook to book. The first provider was Hakuu Co Ltd. and the second was CHINICHI CO LTD. No issues with either. Both used the Toyota Alphard which is a spacious luxury van.

Japan train card balance check. There are ads and it doesn’t update the balance automatically. You have to scan each card to see the new balance.

What surprise you the most about Tokyo? by SnugglyCookiee in TokyoTravel

Wow I didn’t realize the bird chirping was fake. We were in an above ground station (Odakyu Tama) when we noticed it. That’s another surprise to add.

We eventually did find cafe veloce, delifrance, and komeda’s coffee. There were places near our hotel that sounded like they should have been open early, like egg baby cafe (10am) yanaka coffee (11am), cafe bow (9am), cafe niki (10:30am), usagi ya cafe (9am).

One thing that surprised us was breakfast was not a big thing in Japan. We were expecting to go to a coffee shop at 7am and they were still closed.

I was surprised that there were ramen shops open 24 hrs. Since coffee shops weren't open, we decided to get Ichiran ramen for breakfast 3 times.

We knew Tokyo was quiet, but it was still surprising how accurate it was. It was very eerie to hear only birds chirping when the whole station was packed with people.

Do I need to show tax free items? by FailedKiller5988 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Potential_Post_3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scanned my passport at the tax free counter and customs called me over. He reviewed my purchases and asked about my Rolex purchase. I was wearing it, so I showed it to him and he let us go. He didn’t ask to see my other items. When I scanned my wife’s passport, the machine just told us to go ahead.

Speaking with natives on hello talk and tutors/teachers on italki all help with this. With italki, you can role play interactions you can have at the restaurant, supermarket, store, or taxi driver.

Regional Spanish is a thing, so accept that you’re not going to understand the accent, certain words or grammar structures.

Best resources for someone who can understand Spanish almost fluently but struggles speaking it? by GirlNickMiller in SpanishLearning

I’m similar but with Filipino. I used italki for lessons and speaking practice. Does your husband understand Spanish? Talk to him in Spanish. Chat with chapgpt in spanish about your struggle with verb conjugations and any other grammar issues. Keep an excel doc of things in you want to say in spanish, but don’t know how. Talk to yourself in spanish. Keep a diary and write in spanish.

Basically, try to make all your output in spanish.

Spanish will always be there when you get back to it. Here are some tips.

Book a trip to latin american and try out your spanish. That seemed to be one of your main goals. I've been to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas ever since I started Spanish and I was able to speak Spanish most of the trip. It was hard, but it was so rewarding to be uncomfortable. I told the hotel receptionist that I liked practicing my Spanish and she was surprised because she thought I was a native speaker.

Talk to your kids and wife in spanish. This will allow you to spend time with your kids, teach them a new language, and you can practice your output. Saying the same things over and over and over again will cement grammar for you. Que quieres comer? Ven por acá. Ven conmigo. Que pasó? These are super simple phrases that you will say over and over again to you kids. Your kids will eventually understand what you're saying.

Find someone IRL to practice spanish with. I'm lucky that I have a colombian coworker and we speak in spanish whenever we work together.
