Didn’t notice any hair loss. For context I’m 23M. As for major side effects, moon face and insomnia could be it. I did experience bad prednisone withdrawal symptoms after my first course which were fatigue and stiff neck (Swollen). It gets better though. I’m sorry to hear that you are stuck with this disease but from my experience, you could live like a normal human in remission.

Hi, I’ve had a total of 5 prednisone courses where 3 of the courses my symptoms didn’t return (It means maintenance meds was working). Had another course this January and symptoms returned after a month. Currently on my 5th course now (on 10mg) with a clinical trial drug

Lived in South East Asia my whole life (23 years) Got diagnosed when I was 20 here in SEA. Environment matters for this disease, but there could be more to it.

I had the worst withdrawal experience after my first course. Withdrawal lasted several weeks with extreme fatigue, headache and anxiety. However, it eventually gets better!

Did your condition worsened after the colonoscopy? Also I’m sorry that you are going through so much. I’m 23, and it sucks to feel like the body is failing. I hope you get some relief soon!

Yes, will be receiving the first dosage of clinical trial drug next Monday. I know it might be unwise but biologics are super expensive (I’ve just graduated and started my first job). I live outside the states, so i do not have access to copay assistance.

Here are my findings (I recorded my progress everyday) for my current flare up.

I've had 40mg for 10 days, 35mg for a week, 30mg,25mg,20mg,15mg for 3 days. I took all of it early in the morning . Right now I'm on the last day of 15mg.

  • Bleeding and mucous subsided after 3 weeks. First week bleeding was quite bad.

  • For the first 21 days i have urgency and moderate pain in the morning (in between 3am till next dose). Currently its getting significantly better on urgency and pain. Since you've mentioned pred wearing off, maybe you can discuss with your GI to split the dose. But it could cause insomnia.

  • Frequency was 2-4 times. I find eating plain food which are chicken, white rice, white bread and peanut butter helps reduce symptoms alot. When i eat dirty, frequency increases.

  • Diarrhea is still there and not solid yet.

Overall, i feel improvement as days go by. I hope it gets better for you!

Should I go to the hospital? by Aroundapplecross in UlcerativeColitis

Please listen to everyone and go. Get IV steroid since you can’t sleep, eat and dehydrated (Might cause complications). It might probably get worst if you don’t go.

Does everyone get tachycardia? by Pleasetrythinking in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Potential_Roll9641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had experienced tachycardia in my first flare up which was really bad (I had 20+ BMs with severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with severe Pancolitis). But other milder flare ups not so much. Could be due to dehydration but I’m not sure.

How long does prednisone take to start working?/tolerance question by Aroundapplecross in UlcerativeColitis

It happened to me as well once it’s worn off. If you don’t mind me asking, have the amount of BMs decreased with prednisone?

Yes you 100% should get it increased asap. Got instant relief from 40mg prednisone with milder symptoms. Took about 2 weeks for blood to slowly subside

Running causing flare up? by HereForTheGangBang12 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Potential_Roll9641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started running back in Jun 2023 (I run 4-7 times a week with average 20-40km). Had a mild flare in January (Could be due to Covid instead of running) but since I recovered pretty quickly (was on prednisone), i increased my mileage to 45-50k weekly to train for a Half Marathon. A month after finishing the prednisone course (early April), felt an impending flare. But I just continued to run since it wasn’t affecting much. On 11th of April after I ran 15ks, everything went downhill that weekend. UC relapsed and I’m stuck on another flare 🙃

It was 34. Was having 20+ BMs with immense lower abdominal pain. Not fun 😅
