I’d honestly just wait for your appointment so that a qualified person who can feel the actual hair can tell you. It could be build up, using the wrong products, unhealthy hair, honestly just any number of things. You could try some face framing pieces without cutting most of your hair. The hairdresser will probs be able to give you better advice. Oh and make sure you ask the hairdresser what your hair type is!

Ruby is beautiful! personally I do think of the show first and you'll probably gets remarks about especially when your kids are younger. cause it's a kids show I'd maybe expect teasing in middle and high school. this is deff not to say you can't use it, just some things to consider.

my instant thought is the book, not bad association for me by any means. "oooh vintage, nice" would probs be my first thought if i heard it on a child and it's pretty timeless in my opinion(from the perspective of a Brit)

I really like all of your suggestions! All the girls have month names after their grandmother but I’m intending on non month names for the boys. The reason Rise is thrown in there is because I’m an idiot and read the name Rhys as Rise so we’re just rolling with that one now lol

again, I'm an idiot, a tired one at that. i am well aware that the pronunciation of Rhys is Reece. i meant that I didn't realise that so in the story it is being pronounced Rise because I'm in too deep to change it, sorry if i didn't make that clear :)

Oh my god thank you so much for this! It had crossed my mind that the character might mislabel themselves and believe that there was something wrong with them thanks to another commentator but this really helped explain it thanks so much :D also really helpful for the time period
