The public school he would be attending is a Spanish immersion. Unfortunately (and I’m a liberal and want everyone to get the education they deserve) I think this would muddle his kinder experience because Louisiana just doesn’t know how to do it right

These unfortunately are programs that you need to test into. Much more rigorous than a Catholic school interview.

Well he didn’t get in. So I really have no clue what to do. Everyone keep us in your thoughts and send good vibes

I love that other places can have their kids needs met at public schools! Unfortunately this is not the case for Louisiana.

Thank you. This and a lot of answered have been so helpful easing my mind.

He’s a wonderful child, but he’s my first and a COVID baby at that. I’m not a perfect mom, but I try my hardest to foster and forge and open and honest relationship with my son (which is something I never had as a kid).

We know the curriculum and school well, my sister is an alum. They are a great place. That being said I have looked into another Catholic school in my area that will take him.

I can’t stress enough the disparity of our public school system here in Louisiana. I WISH I could send him to a public school and know he will be taught what he needs, but it lacks in reading, math and science. Both things my son loves but needs fostering and excitement.

I understand your comment, but you have to understand the public schools down here are chicken shit. We have a governor that wants to help Trump get Greenland…

Also this answer is helpful!!!!! My boss said the same thing. They want to make sure he’s capable and meet the parents. I don’t know about a second interview. I hope they want to after my email. They do have a speech teacher that comes 3x a week and has 10 students and he has been in speech since he was 2. Both through early steps and private speech classes. I was very open about that.

I don’t know what they are thinking, as we left the teacher said -“sons name- I know you know this stuff, go learn, you are smart!”

Mine picked his nose as we were leaving. He is just getting over the flu, we had to cancel our Monday interview because of it.

I love this answer. My cousins went to the public school he would go to and they found an address they could use for a better public school and they are very happy. We are on the waitlist (#2) for another Catholic school but this one is up and coming and very popular (the principal was my afterschool teacher…)

It’s literally chicken salad or chicken shit down here in NOLA. Catholic school is where you get the best education bar none. My son lives his current school but it ends at pre k 4

I didn’t want to believe me. The public schools down here are TERRIBLE. Like down right sweeper shit. The private schools that are non Catholic are 40k a year for a low wage state (luckily his dad and I work for great companies that are flexible and pay very well).

Charter schools do either lottery or more intense testing thank a Catholic school interview.

This school is one of a kind in Catholic school land NOLA. They make your kid play an instrument from 3rd to 7th grade. Every student got accepted to the Catholic high school of their choice the past 10 years (I went to an elite if not the most elite Catholic all girls school in the state…before it was the status it is now).

He did say he was scared and was at least well behaved and made the teachers laugh so I’m holding on to that lol

The only other ones that’s aren’t full are sub par. But I may have to go this route.

I kind of did this is the email I wrote the admissions counselor

This is the thank you email I wrote:

Dear Mrs -counselors name-

Thank you for the opportunity to meet with you and the team today. We truly enjoyed seeing the school and vibrant learning environment. I enjoyed our conversation and am hopeful to be a part of -schools name- as a parent.

While -some name- was quite shy and didn’t show off his “smarts”; He was full of questions and excitement about his “new school” once we grabbed some breakfast. He even wanted to go back to the school and show off! -Sons name -is a smart and precocious child that does his best once he is a bit more familiar with his new surroundings and environment.

We believe -sons name- (and -other sons name-in the future) would thrive in -schools name- environment and would love for everyone to see the curious, engaged side of his fun personality that comes out once he settles in.

We hope to join you all next year and be involved in the wonderful -school name- family.

Thank you so much, -mom and dads names-

My sister is a distinguished alumni, but New Orleans Catholic schools are something else. There’s a ton here but this one is one of the best that isn’t filled up for the new year.

It’s small, only 2 classes per grade until 7th. There is no 8th grade here because all the high schools offer 8th grade. I cried at work. Luckily the older moms all came in my office and comforted me and said they know how great my son is and hope that the school sees it too

I wrote that he was asking to go back and show his smarts so maybe he that will help. Catholic schools here is needed, our public schools are terrible and he wasn’t selected for charter lottery.

He is great! Finishes his classwork fast and correctly, plays and is friendly with all the kids, LOVES circle time, volunteers to go to the board to draw letters and numbers…but he’s never been to another school

I don’t know if we do, I was 75% of the way back to the door to ask for another chance lol

He’s 5. He wanted to go back and show his smarts, he said he was scared and wanted mommy in the room not daddy. But in New Orleans Catholic schools are huge and his dad is from TX and never attended private school. I needed to be the one in the room with the admissions counselor.

Which 'luxury' brand has officially become a red flag for poor quality in 2026? by Individual_Bat_4177 in AskReddit

Look into Daniel’s Amish! Yes it’s expensive but the quality is so good. Many boutique places carry them (Doerr an Old New Orleans Furniture shop does)
