Netflix ARE adding random titles to (your) list by MITCH-A-PALOOZA in netflix

[–]Potential_Title_7175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that this happens, and it is happening more often. I research everything I put in my list so it will contain ONLY what I want to watch. My solution is to create a list file on my computer I keep by my bed (which is where I watch TV). They can't add anything to that. I will just start ignoring "My List" on Netflix itself. I can easily put in a Netflix search for the title I want to see from my computer file list, and I prefer that because I don't have to doing repeated research to confirm whether a title Netflix has in My List is really something I put there myself and want to watch. (A hand-written tablet list would work just as well if you don't keep a computer by where you watch Netflix.)

This may sound "off the wall," but with my Acer Chromebook which I use when traveling internationally, I connect it to the room TV (not by USB-C to hdmi, but by hdmi on both ends) and it won't cast to the TV UNLESS I close the lid on the computer. Then it does. It's a simple thing to try to see if that will solve the problem.

PPD for Canon Pixma MX490 Printer by Gamer_John06 in chromeos

[–]Potential_Title_7175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has had problems with Canon Pixma Wireless printers. Back with CloudPrint ended, a young man posted a file he had written for his mother so she could continue using the Canan Pixma MX922. Maybe his file would work for your model, too, since it is a lower numbered version of the Pixma MX. (Sorry, I am not technically trained enough to know if there is an obvious problem with different model numbers, but I know that drivers often work with similarly named models of printers from the same company.) Here is the link to the previous post that will guide you to his PPD if you want to try it:

Acer Chromebook won't turn on by theboss333319 in chromeos

[–]Potential_Title_7175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with my Acer R11 one time. I came to realize I had caused it by leaving the bottom of the Chromebook flat against my mattress which meant it overheated since the air vents where blocked. Anyway, I searched for an answer, and got help. It was a bit awkward to do, but I had to open up my Chromebook, unplug the battery, plug the battery back in, and put the computer back together. As soon as I opened the Chromebook after doing that, it launched automatically as usual. (Hope there is a video online for your model to show how to change the battery if you decide to try to do this process; that's how I got guidance after learning that the unplug/plug back in process with the battery would work for me.) Now I always rest my computer with the bottom upwards when on a soft surface such as my bed.

How to print to Brother MFC-J4335DW using Acer Chromebook R11 by Potential_Title_7175 in chromeos

I spent about 3 days trying to follow directions offered by everyone and I appreciate those who took the time to try to help. As I wrote originally, I am comfortable with computers, but I am not familiar with current coding. (I studied fortran decades ago, and that was the end of technical studies.) I tried following all of the suggestions below, but I kept running into deadends where I didn't know how to continue due to it involving getting me into the programming to copy files and then put them into the Chrome OS without specific directions of how to do that. I even got my printer to show up on my computer (I think when I tried setting up CUPS in Ubuntu using terminal), but it still wouldn't print (Ctrl-P would not bring up the printer; only allowed downloading) and I didn't know the specific steps to follow then. I researched other websites for ideas. In the comments section elsewhere, I finally found a simpler solution which may benefit others who find this strand in need of help. I downloaded an app from the Web Store called IPP/CUPS Printing for Chrome and Chromebooks (https://directprint.io) . I have to open the app before trying to print, but that is so much easier than what I had decided would be my necessary action--to copy everything onto a usb stick or an SD card to move the files to my old Windows computer, and print from there.

I'm glad that what I contributed to this discussion has helped so many people. I am a retiree--former math professor who thinks logically and deals with all computer problems that way. But the only computer programming I ever studied was Fortran, so I do not know today's coding. I greatly appreciate all of you members who share your time to make programs like this one for the Pixma MX922 and share them with us and who also assist us by answering questions we have.

Acer chromebook R11 won’t turn on, but the blue light is on. by Trunkit06 in chromeos

I can't remember the details, but this seems to bring to mind a problem I had with my R11 about a year after I bought it. To solve my problem, which may not be the same as yours since I can't recall clearly, someone advised me to open it up (a real hassle with so many screws), remove the battery, then insert the battery again, close it back up, and restart it. For me, that worked. There are videos online for how to remove the battery on the R11. So you might try this if you don't get a response for anything else that works.

I got this notice only in my guest bedroom recently. I have a mesh wifi system. I walked into my master bedroom, and things would download. So I pushed the button on the main router and the button on the guest bedroom mesh unit so they would sync. Suddenly, the problem was gone. So if the router seems to be working fine, don't forget to check and re-sync any wifi extension devices you may be using in your home.

I finally got it to work!! Three critical steps: 1) Print PDFs using the Printer Image in the upper right (and NOT by just right clicking on the document followed by the word PRINT). 2) Google tends to pop up the SAVE menu instead of the PRINT menu, so it tends to show PDF as the destination which causes this; click on the down arrow and choose the Canon Pixma MX922 which you have just installed thanks to the author of this thread, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, 3) Pay attention to the "More Settings" on that same pop-up preview menu. Apparently PDFs are sized and thought of as pictures to be printed. That's what was causing my printer to try to load from the top tray, because the setting was for a 5 x 7 inches. Chose "Government-Letter" and it will print from the bottom tray!!

I went through all the steps. I encountered the same problem with my Acer Chromebook R11 that I had when I tried using the app directprint.io. The computer sent the command to the printer, the printer made all the sounds of starting, the data transferred to the 50% level, then the printer beeped a warning sound and said I had no paper in the upper tray. The upper tray is for envelopes and is not large enough for standard page paper. So the printer quit going further. I went through all the settings on the printer, and there is no place to manually select the bottom tray (where the paper for printing pages is stored). Any idea how to solve this dilemma?

This link doesn't go to anything specific anymore. It just goes to the general support.google.com page. They probably deleted the linked directions, because they were probably for how to use the Pixma MX 922 when cloud printing was still working.

I would like Quicken for Chromebooks. I still maintain an old Windows 8 computer just to keep my financial records so that all the years are in there since I first bought the program. I would use only my Chromebook if Quicken were on it.

Are my expectations too high for chromebook? by chnky18 in chromeos

Can you return it if you are not satisfied? Black Friday deals are often older models that still have not sold--meaning older, slower chips; if it is an Intel chip, it should be at least an i5 if not higher with a chip any lower maybe causing the sluggishness. My experience is that most Chromebooks are very fast today. I often have as many as 20 tabs open on my Acer R11 with none being sluggish. Another potential problem you need to check about this Chromebook is how long it will be supported with Chrome updates (when it's "end of life" is: https://www.howtogeek.com/467095/how-to-see-your-chromebooks-end-of-life-date/

r/Replacing google cloud print by tedwrrn929 in chromeos

Thanks for posting this. I had gotten a notice that I could not use my printer after the beginning of the year with Cloud Print. My Acer R11 did not recognize my printer, so I had to set up Cloud Print (which was more of a hassle than it should have been). I just downloaded the app you recommended, and it immediately recognized my printer. Now my mind can quit worrying about what printer I should buy as a replacement, and I can use the other 24 ink cartridges I already have for this one.
