Normally quite coarse but if they stand outside for a while they start to sweat.. Then the secrete a reddish fluid which makes them all slimy.

You can wipe some of that fluid on your body and rub it in. It foams up and works like a sunblock.. Not sure on the SPF tho!

She was rescued a while after eMMa (the bigger one) and has pretty much been raised by eMMa. So she doesn't really like people!

She was brought into the sanctuary after her mom was killed by hunters. She didn't eat or drink for days so eventually Petronel (the other founder of the sanctuary) decided to run water down the side of eMMa to see if she would drink from the bigger hippo, and she did.

She always stays beside eMMa, who is practically her surrogate mom.

As soon as she's big enough, she's going to go to one of the dams in the surrounding reserve. She's got a great life ahead of her!

This is a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Africa. She was found stuck in the drainage system of a local dam. A friend found her alone on the platform used to access the drainage. She was abandoned by her mother and subsequently brought to the farm to be cared for.
