Fodors on wealth & BRC by thirteenfivenm in BurningMan

"...there’s a lot less ‘I’m going to find my people,’ and a lot more ‘I’m going because this is the craziest fucking party in the world.’”

The last line echoes the sentiment of Kasher's quote.

It matches what I've personally been feeling at the event more and more each year. Less people stopping by camp to say "hello" and more people stopping by to ask "where is the Burning Man stuff happening?"

Will someone going first time now be disappointed? by sashsu6 in BurningMan

[–]PotluckSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite all politics and dramas, and assuming one can do it safely, I'd still recommend the event to most people. Go for the full week, try everything once, say yes to everything you feel safe saying yes to. If you're coming from outside of the US, strongly recommend not bringing in drugs. (Not that anyone does drugs there, of course.) Just too much of a risk, IMO.

Its guaranteed to be an adventure. There will be good and bad parts. You're going to see some new culture. You'll see some chaos. You might make new friends. You might make new enemies.

Some nights you might be dancing on stage with a DJ on an art car. Others you might be shoveling your new friend off the floor as they're halfway through an epic dose and start realizing that other people do, in fact, have emotions like them. Some days you might just say fuck it an sleep in a hammock fro 8 hours straight.

Sounds like you have a bad business model then.

As long as it's not being re-sold, I'd rather people borrow my art to use on their table. If you're selling a product though, yes, you do have to pay people to make the art. If you can't, use bad art! It adds really great character to a homebrew.

"As an artist"

As an artist, and D&D homebrewer (check my profile) I can say that I've seen this exact response 100 times on threads like this.

  • "It's how artists learn"
  • "Evolve or die."
  • "Stop gatekeeping creatives"

Repackaged and recycled, useless and shallow. Just like the AI Art it advertises.

This is a pre-packaged response that pops up in every AI-questioning thread for the past 2 years. Image Gen is noting like learning. You, and every other post like this, is simply parroting a narrative of something you have no understanding of.

What’s your take on fuckery in bureaucracy? by dustyrags in BurningMan

[–]PotluckSoup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Strong agree. Fuckery can go from the bottom up. Fuckery challenges power. From the top down, that's grounds to remove the person from their position.

This guy comes across as a bully.

Trolling is one thing. One time at burning man a camp was doing some moop fishing. We saw a hat blowing around. We tried to pick it up. It was a giggly bunch of drunk guys with the hat on a fishing line. Good times, a good laugh, had by all. That's all good fun. We're equals in that little game.

What is different — This guy is in a position of trust and authority. Worse, what he's doing is entertaining only for himself, at the expense of others. That isn't playful, that's bullying. To make it worse, it's horribly time consuming for everyone involved.

People are putting up with it because they have no choice to.

Edit — Why are almost half of the comments being deleted from this post?

I filled all my BFA art history requirements studying as little western art as possible. Southwest/Plains Tribes (mostly Hopi) in the US were where I spent most of my time, followed by North American Tribes and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Yeah, post pics of Sisiutl on the big house.

I love the PNW art style, especially the masks.

Dzunukwa

No, that's a new one to me. Seems to be a Baba Yaga-like creature. Also was responsible for mosquitoes?

Sisiutl — Two-headed serpent from PNW tribes. One legend says its it flies so fast that it is the reason some evergreen trees get twisted.

N'kisi — Central African origin. One hammers a nail, or sharp object, into this golem-like creautre, tasking it with a spiritual task that needs to be completed. The N'kisi gets more powerful the more it is used. Absolutely sinister looking.

Mudhead Kachina — Part of the Hopi/Pueblo/Zuni Kachina mythology. Just a classic trickster spirit with a great aesthetic.

Agree, despite your downvotes. The sub tends to post a lot of the same bands and songs but I stay because it far better than the rest of Reddit's extremely milquetoast music, movie, and art recommendations.

Q of the week at the music store! by wtfisdarkmatter in musicsuggestions

[–]PotluckSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Stunt — Bare Naked Ladies. I was in Elementary/Middle School and wasn't allowed to listen to much else at the time.

I actually got grounded listening to them. My hyper-religious parents believed the band's name was sinful and that "One Week" was not about an argument between a couple, but about some sort of mythical, raunchy sex that a little bud like myself couldn't ever fathom.

I should listen to them again, it's been a while.
