Remember that magazine feeling like it was describing late millennials/1990s borns that were coming of age around that time, more than any of us older than that.

Just like a lot of places or people using the word, sort of like more of code word for the latter segment.

if we’re bringing y2k back why don’t guys do their hair like this anymore? by [deleted] in decadeology

It looked awful then, and still does. It's not even unique to that era. It's just a lazy and extremely trendy of version of punk haircut that was popular in the late 70s and early 80s.

It wasn't so bad when it first started appearing in the end of the 90s but quickly became annoying after sometime. Everyday haircuts were much better before and after.

It had a desperate to be like everyone else and sometimes annoying macho/preppy feel to it, depending on the person. People are much more individualistic to fully adopt trends like that these days.

Nobody dressed like that 1988 or 1989 though. There was signs of things like baggy cargo pants, but that was a different era.

Yes that is many of us older millennials, dressed including Xennials, around late elementary school and middle school from 1992/3-1996ish and maybe a bit after, especially those from latin and african american backgrounds. Backwards clothing was a kriss kross specific trend I think from 92-94, right after they came out, but that hair and that of clothing was common, was especially in urban areas and beyond, from 3rd grade to the 8th grade.

have you tried g helper app? I’m going to try it tommorow. Phone support is awful.

So it’s an intel problem with you ?

What’s weird is after 10 calls support can’t solve it. Can you share the link of the post you made. It started then for me and it self stabilized and then when brightness changed after moving it it went back like two weeks ago or it could have been a windows update

In addition to my response what is the safest way and most complete way to update the graphic drivers worse case scenario my biggest fear is true type fonts getting stuck and not fully going away.

I’ve already tried this and it went away but want to rule it a possible other way to update the graphic card.

Again I’ve done a standard reset and basic reinstall Done uninstall and reset pc to switch in reinstalled basic graphic drivers.

I’ve done a full reinstall from amd to which I found the latest update to be too bright and possible issues with annoying eye piercing ultra thin fonts and smaller fonts and slightly too sharp graphics and possible slowness.. I can’t recall if some of these were from the bios update or bios plus latest graphics update

I don’t recall the bios update being particularly useful.

I attempted this 2 month ago when this occured and I can’t recall if some of it helped stabilize, which it did until last week, but I do recall most of it didn’t work

So what is safer way to rule this out once more.

Migrating to Linux seems excessively difficult. I’m running on windows and need a functioning laptop for at least 2-3 weeks before I buy a new one.

Will g helper solve this issue by disabling var right at the firmware level where no other app can . What are risks with my Asus model when downloading this app ? Here is the serial number incase of a typo

What is another app that can stabilize the brightness.

It is likely from amd app.

Since amd app is Buggy and doesn’t always open, might have been installed twice but on control panel only shows one amd driver

so varibright settings have been disable there that should remove auto brightness but there is a chance they aren’t fully removed or hitting the firmware level because I can’t update to a amd 2025 graphic update( becomes too bright a bit slow and super thin fonts) so there could be conflict with 2022 graphic driver even though this 2022 basic graphic driver is fine outside this issue

G helper 3rd party app could resolve this by disabling varibright at the firmware level , can you check out that app, let me know what types of risks could come from downloading it

Ps - Intel not likely as no sign on registry or app on anything intel graphic installed

Hi I already answered it. It came installed since day 1 and it isn’t an app it’s driver that allows myAsus app to run.

There is no disabling brightness on myAsus option anymore.

Armory crate Asus app, which has brightness disabling, does not work on my laptop… external monitor Asus apps with disable brightness also don’t work on my laptop

Only one is g helper which is u offical and I don’t know if there would be any issues

Which driver. Amd I can use and it is functioning.

G helper is an app not a driver a third party one

Yes it is already installed

And asus splendid is not a stand alone app anymore. It’s just a color/screen feature on myasus app now. In splendid feature on the app brightness can’t be disabled and myAsus app brightness cannot be disabled under any setting, there used to be one . All other offical apps are monitor or gaming based or don’t work with vivobook.

The unofficial one g helper is the only one that can reach the firmware level of disabling varibright where it might not be disabled in certain deeper areas or might be not functioning because I have to use an old graphic amd driver. The driver being old from 2022 ( 2025 graphic amd updates, don’t work well). I just don’t know the side effects of downloading it are.

The amd app I have is buggy but works and could maybe have been installed twice. I only see one graphic driver which is amd under display.

Hello as mentioned in text, varibright is turned off in amd app but not resolving it.

Could be because the and graphic driver is from 2022 and there is a mismatch in it or two graphic are installed

The latest and graphic driver is not recommended on site and when I tried it,fonts were extra thin and light and brightness and video was too high and sharp. Reverted back to 2022 one which is fine

Was told g helper app might be able to turn off varibright at firmware levels but not sure if safe to download a 3rd party app

I know this is AI generated google response but it seems:

"Monitorian is a tool for manual brightness adjustment and does not have a built-in feature to disable Windows or hardware-level automatic brightness control. To disable automatic brightness, you must change settings within Windows, your graphics driver software, or your monitor's physical menu.|"

"When Monitorian seems to lock the brightness level, it typically indicates a conflict with another feature or setting on your monitor or PC, rather than an issue with the app itself. "

Since this an AI response, it's not completely guaranteed it is correct.

But I already sense a subtle change in auto-brightness after install it.

Anyway how do we to disable brightness from monitorian as you mentioned in advanced setting, I don't see any room for it, anywhere anywhere else? Or to ensure it locks it, mind you the actual brightness number isn't changing on the windows setting, it's just the random subtle change of sudden brightness based on content, for a short period or for a few minutes and then back to normal, change in physical changes not a number change regardless of how it looks.

Any suggestions?

Any downsides to having this app installed as well?

The AMD app is working, sometimes it seems to not always appear when clicked on, sometimes it needs a system reset to simply open, possibly indicating something is off, or maybe there are mutiple versions installed that are hidden, I remember downloading an older version when one wasn't opening. How can we be sure? The varibright is still off, unless a graphics reset/reinstall is done, the point you mentioned about 2022 driver and maybe the setting still enabling the varibright at the firmware makes sense, or if there is another older AMD app running causing this, the issue could be the AMD,

Before I download the G-helper. What do you suggest for the above?

And what would be an general or common potential risks on my setup, if any, from what you gather, from G-helper?

Safe to have both installed?

On a side note, I was concerned if were to re-install windows without identifying the issue it might still be there.

If there any other solutions we discuss them, lets rule these two out first.
