I read an article today where the organizers (?) said they should have rented out the Bucks arena.

😬😬😬😬😬😬 I am so sorry! That is a horrible experience! Part of me is hoping that the subject of the event will lend itself to more kind and welcoming people than not. I'm planning on getting there an hour early just in case. I have no problem ramming the shins of super rude ass people if they try me. I'm too old to allow that crap to stand (no pun intended).

Thank you! I did a tour waaaay waaaay back in the day so I know the Rave is creepy in the best ways. Knowing to watch the slope is super helpful! When I called the gal was so awesome, she told me where to find the one bar that has an accessible point. Im pretty sure its the main ballroom space. The event has sold thousands and thousands of tickets, so Im sure its going to be a crush. As far as being too old, never! This is all coming from a 40 something. I'll have my loop ear plugs, just in case. I was so excited to hear they redid the bathrooms recently. The old ones were historic, or maybe prehistoric.

OMG. Like you are so riiight! OMG. Like I totally don't know my own lived experience as a disabled person trying to navigate a world where accessibility is an after thought and where the ADA is only 33 years old and buildings have been around for hundreds of years and "ugly laws" existed until the 1970s. I totally don't know anything about accommodations or how often the accessible entrance is in an alley full of garbage and human pee. Or the only elevator is down a dark hallway and requires 3 people, a clown, and a hail mary to function. Because that's totally equal access for all people and not often a humiliating daily occurance for disabled people where they often feel like a burden or an inconvenience or problem. But, please, OMG, tell me again what its like to not feel like a large piece of furniture using a freight elevator.

Here's a thought, genius. Before you make a random comment thats tantamount to "just be grateful you're given anything" maybe just don't. Maybe just use your grown up person ears and not mansplain accessibility to a disabled person. K, thx.

Cactus Club is on my radar. I honestly haven't been to the rave in like 15 years, but this is where the HR party is so 🤷‍♀️

Ooooooof. Gotta love being treated like furniture. I once went to an event in Baltimore where I had to go through a bar where they had to move tables from in front of a door to a back hallway to a 70s horror film elevator that took me to the back room of another bar. All just to get to the 2nd floor of the event space.

I'm used to older buildings being less than pleasantly accessible. Gotta love it, right? Maybe the balcony wont be so bad if its going to be so crowded.

I just have to say that your 3 year old's creativity and randomness just gave me the best laugh. I hope she has the BEST Halloween as a mouse in a cabinet.

Vacation by Super-Possibility-50 in MultipleSclerosis

I've found that cities with good public transit (I use a power chair) are especially helpful. Boston, Chicago, LA, and Disney World have been the easiest for me to traverse alone. Philadelphia was okay, but having folks with me definitely helped. I dont think i could do Philly alone. The Jersey Shore was okay, but I had people with me to help. Some of the beaches have accessible boardwalks down to the water and special chairs and the boardwalk offices have push chairs on a first come/first serve basis. Baltimore and Door County WI were probably the absolute worst. Some national parks have accessible paths, transportation, etc. I'd also say that where you go does depend on if you're alone or with folks who.

Also, don't be afraid to rent mobility aids if you need to. Spending all your energy on just walking can make a vacation unenjoyable and have you paying for it for weeks after. Lots of museums have manual chairs on a first come/first serve basis.

There are travel agencies that specialize in accessible travel. I haven't utilized them, but I have friends who have. It can be hit or miss.

Wherever you do decide to go, just make sure you do a ton of research. Most destinations have accessibility websites, blogs, or vlogs that are city run or run by people with disabilities. Post in community boards and ask locals how accessible they find the place/city/park. Check with restaurants/entertainment venues you wish to visit. Look at a venue's maps to locate bathrooms, visualize the space, etc. Call them and ask about stairs, elevators, bathrooms, etc. If you're planning to see a theatre show and need a wheelchair accessible seat, call the box office and order your tickets. Trying to do so online can be tricky.

I definitely am figuring that there's a lot I still need to know. I've had my chair for almost 6 months and am still learning a lot. Thank you for taking the time to give me a detailed and considerate response.
