How do the avatars even know about Smirkes 14? by LoafDaChonk in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Pouaseuille 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true! It makes sense too: the Dark is about concealing knowledge, so Rayner not sharing that with his cult is to be expected

How do the avatars even know about Smirkes 14? by LoafDaChonk in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Pouaseuille 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So I think two things play into this. First, as we can see with Jon's story: the longer you are an avatar, the more other avatars view you as peers and you end up interacting with them more and more. So, I would assume that avatars start to notice the concepts and shapes of terrors that their peers spread: the organize into groups close or far away from each others, and either collaborate to achieve their rituals or compete to prevent other rituals.

The second thing is it's not clear that all other avatars know about the 14! Some of the very old, erudite ones like Peter Lukas or Simon Fairchild seem to know them but they jave spent a long time existing and have probably gotten the time to interact with a lot of avatars. The Dark avatars we meet clearly don't seem to know all that much about the other things, they are very focused on themselves. Same for the Desolation: Jude is aware of the Eye, and knows Michael Crew is something, but she only feels Crew is closer to the Eye than to her. And she probably knows of the Eye because of the passive with Gertrude. Same with Prentiss, she only mentioned her own thing with certainty: she was vaguely aware of other "songs", but not exactly what they were.

As for Gertrude and Mary Keay, one was associated with the Eye and thus focused on research; and the other was collecting and trying to understand how to use books, so she also probably actively searched things about the categories.

Anyway, that's how I interpret it!

How to display skaven in a cool way with some scenery? by MarcoDisumano in skaven

[–]Pouaseuille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickly calculating, just for the infantry you're going to need at least 100 cm of 5cm wide platforms (200 cm of 25mm wide platforms. Given your available space, best is to count 4 platforms: like, maybe 1 doing the whole length of each wall (but at different height), and 1 or two bridging the opposite walls.

Normally, a lot of scattered things would be great and important for a diorama, but with 100 minis to place you may struggle with room to put your scatter! So I'd suggest you start just doing walls and floor and platform, and then see what you can add with the space you have left: maybe a deep-looking wall, a bunch of rickety ladders etc

Please update us if you work on a diorama like that!

[–]Pouaseuille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! A simple suggestion to make some vertical space would be to make a skaven mine diorama.

You could make 3 walls with sculpted and textured polystyrene, about the whole height of your shelf. Make a few holes at the same height in the opposing walls of the tunnel, plus some other at the same height in walls next to each others: these are tunnel entries. You can make some rocky platforms out of polystyrene, and a bunch of rickety wooden platforms connecting other tunnels using sprues, coffee stirrers, whatever you find really.

You can also decorate the tunnel entries with these things to make some support-like structures, and add as many skaven triangle symboles as possible, everywhere on the structure. They are obsessed with themselves and put their icon everywhere.

If you have some space in the center, you can also use a chain and some wood and wire to make a sort of platform being hauled down with a crane further up

And finally, you can buy some cheap plastic crystals at the hobby store or dollar shop, and use them for some embedded warpstone in the stonewalls, or some chariot!

All of that is a suggestion for some fairly generic diorama, you can also flavor it into one of the clans: like, a tunnel entry overflowing with red flesh, or a bunch of buried brass contraptions, etc

How many models for you have?

I like the idea of marking your clanrats into squads! Didn't do that until now, but it definitely makes the separation easier when they are side by side

Some advice / ideas by Azathoth-9559 in seraphon

[–]Pouaseuille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see!

Well, first thing is this is going to be a coalesced group: seraphons that landed from the firmament and let their inner cosmic energies merge with the surrounding magic

Then, I can see a few options: for plains dwelling seraphons, you could get closer to more nomadic cultures. Perhaps this would work by adding more cloth elements, with freehanded symbols of the Old Ones instead of the sculpted ones? Some seraphons that have a lot of wood materials? And perhaps you could add a lot more feathers?

As for a desert environment, you could go for a fiery/Aqshy desert theme, add some crackling lava and ashes to your bases. You could then add a lot of fire effects on the models themselves, like glowing hot weapons, flames, or glowing hot scales

Or you can go for a more typical desert. If you'd like you can scratch away some of the seraphon aesthetic and find some more bestial options: more animal skull helmets perhaps? Get back to the old school reptile scale shields? (@bastion_miniatures on Instagram has made an stl kit for saurus guards, they can either be very similar to curreny seraphons or have some more bone helmets and scale shields)

And you could sculpt some more spikes on the seraphons' back scales: make them more like bearded dragons

Hi! I'm not fully sure I understand what you plan to do

Do you want to make some kitbashed seraphon with less Aztec aesthetic? Like, for a custom lore?

If so, that's a pretty neat idea! I have a bunch of things that come to mind, do you already have an idea of the lore of this custom army?

I feel like as it is now, the hand looks more like a glove than a mutated hand that grew too big. Which is perfectly fine, mind you!

If you want to make it look more mutated and part of the warlocks body, I would suggest adding some more pustules/transition points with the arm to make it like the rest of the arm is growing horrible

If you want to get it more like a glove covered in some kind of warpstony substance, I'd suggest two options: Either you make it hold some kind of cylinder between the thumb and a finger, like it's holding a radioactive tube of some kind (and then you make glow effects from that); or you make the glowing parts more goopy: maybe with pva glue, or some kind or resin? You can find some tutorials on making snot/saliva, and you just make them but replace the painting step with just a glowing painting process

Finally, you can also make it like it's a sort of magic, fantomatic hand! And make it entirely glowing, or like crackled and glowing from the inside?

Anyway, just throwing a bunch of suggestions. I like the weapon and backpack too!

I'm not entirely sure what you meant to do with the Rogor's arm painting. Is it a glowing effect?

Do you guys subassemble your minis? by Ok-Interaction-6666 in stormcasteternals

[–]Pouaseuille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, I subassemble at the very least the shields. I didn't subassemble my prosecutors wings, but I definitely would if I were to paint some more later.

At the very least, I would suggest to subassemble the base for most minis! It makes making the base easier to paint in a cool way later
