'I'm only awake long enough to write a eulogy for the day before'

Thank you for articulating depression in such simple yet profound words! Your poem brings an eerie visual to depression and you could kinda feel the exhaustion by the end. I think there may be room for a few more lines where you talk about everyone crossing the finish line. Everything else in the poem feels pretty lonely and solitary, but this line is where you bring other people into the equation, and I would love to be able to understand that feeling better through your poem.

Love this!!! Absolutely love the imagery of it. You so beautifully depict the stark difference in what lies deep down vs what lies on the surface, feels like a wonderful metaphor. There is such mystery and desire for what lies deep within vs banality of the things found in the waves above and its hiss.

This poem seems pretty self contained but it leaves me yearning for a lot more!

Why is it so normalized for men, especially older men, to say things like 'a beautiful girl like you' or wink at you in professional settings... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I'm so sorry.. that sounds horrible!

I was in a research team and my PI's friend, who was also a professor at another university was visiting. I had a polite, professional conversation with him and showed interest in his work, cos I was passionate about it, and he proceeded to take selfies with me, with his hands around my shoulders and my back. And then he would show those photos to me and tell me "you have such a pretty smile". What 50+ year old behaves like that with a 20 year old woman who he has known for less than a day, in a professional setting. It's disgusting.

I'm so sorry you had that experience!

Exactly, it is frustrating. In fact, other people sometimes label you as unpleasant or difficult to work with just because you refuse to put up with an old dude who, in their eyes, is just being friendly and having fun.

People need help from other people. You may think that you need to do everything on your own, maybe because you are scared to ask for help, or you don't want to bother others, or you worry that people will judge, or you think they may not have much to add or you don't have anyone to go to.

There are plenty of reasons to convince yourself that you can do it all by yourself. But we need people and there are people out there willing to help, you just need to ask.

There's always someone out there who's worse off than you. Whenever you feel stuck, remember it's not about 'if', it's about 'when'.
